Error Installing HomeKitLink-Siri Plugin

Hi,

I hope you've seen this one before. When I double click the HomeKitLink plugin, I get the following error messages in the Indigo Event Log:

Installing and enabling plugin HomeKitLink Siri v0.6.75
Error ReloadPlugin() caught exception: FileIOError -- rename/move of file or folder failed -- check file/folder permissions

Not sure what file or folder failed and I don't know where or how to check this.

Have you checked the plugin log? There might be a clue there.

Have you tried deleting the old Plugin and pasting in the new one manually? Disable the plugin then delete and paste the new one here in Finder:

Also make sure once you disable it there is only 1 copy of the plugin in the above directory. Make sure there is not one in

So a couple years ago I had HomeBridge installed but now I'm trying to move to HomeKitLink to regain that functionality. I've never had HomeKitLink installed before now. That said I looked through the plugins and preferences files located in the preceptive Automation folder in libraries: There is no reference to HomeKitLink... only HomeBridge.

I'm not completely sure I'm staring at the right location: Screenshot attached

Hi

That is a pretty low level indigo error. Would suggest will happen with any plugin install ?

Something is up with file permissions, the download plugin bundle or user permission settings.

Would check all of the above.

Rerun the indigo installer appears to be the standard advice for file permission errors.

I reinstalled indigo and I get the same error. Tried loading some plugins that I haven't used before and they all installed except for
appleTV Plugin, and
HomeKitLink Siri plugin.

These both gave me the same error line in red:

Error ReloadPlugin() caught exception: FileIOError -- rename/move of file or folder failed -- check file/folder permissions

Is there anything else I can try? Wife really wants HomeKit with Siri to work again.

Unfortunately it does seem there is a wider issue here.

Alternatively it may be the permissions of the download bundle? Perhaps would check location of that - and the files permissions.

Would check user permissions settings - as Indigo does need user running to have elevated permissions

But failing a quick review/search of user permissions in this forum - this will probably need Matt/Jay to chime in…

Have you recently migrated to a new machine using Migration Assistant by chance?

Migration Assistant has been known to mess up user permissions sometimes.

Both those 2 plugins you have issues with,unzip the downloaded file into a new folder.
I wonder whether current user does not have permissions for that created folder?

Otherwise would have thought re running installer would sort out indigo app folder permissions ….

Interesting comments and it does sound like a permissions problem. I am however the admin on this computer and YES I have upgraded the computer (about 9 months ago) from a 2018 MacMini to a 2023 MacMini and I think I used the migration assistant.

(Side rant): I've had big issues with both Alexa and Siri for a couple of years... but I have decided to throw Alexa in the Trash and just support Siri going forward. Alexa has a horrible web interface and it completely does its own thing... my home has a couple of hundred devices and Alexa is not built for that. I'm so done with Alexa.

Is there a deeper level of permissions I can activate with "Terminal" that will allow me to install HomeKitLink-Siri?

I checked the permissions on the HomeKitLink plugin and some of the folders in the Perceptive Automation folder... It says that I have permissions to Read/Write on these.

My guess is it's permissions in the folder where you have unzipped the plugin Bundle from.

If you have re-run Indigo installer - that should sort out the Indigo permissions.

You don't happen to have the plugin on iCloud Drive at present? If you do try moving it to your home folder first then run it from there.
