Broken with 2023.1? [Not Broken]

I just updated to 2023.1 and the plugin seems to not work.

It says it's running, but all of my devices say "Error" and my iOS devices can't communicate with any of them.

Anyone else?

Edit: I downgraded back to 2022.2, restored an old version of the database, and it's working again, so there must be something up to 2023.1 and the plugin.

Works fine with 2023.1

It has been Python 3 since the beginning - so for the plugin nothing has changed with 2023.1 versus the earlier versions of Indigo.

Probably need some further information.

As I said, before this edit, the plugin works fine with 2023.1 and Python 3.

There is likely something up with one of your published devices that has changed between versions. An incorrect state when using the ‘show All’ options could cause an issue. If there has been a device that has changed or has been now supported in Indigo (when wasn’t before) that would potentially be cause. Or if you published a plugin device which is now not supported as the plugin is python2 - that would also cause an issue. But without any information it is pretty hard to know for certain.

Debug logging for one - may simply show the device that is causing the issue.
or Printing the published devices to log from pluginConfig menu may give you some idea.

It's not. None of my Homepods can control any of the devices, and every single one published through the plugin shows "Error" in iOS/iPadOs/macOS

If I go back to Indigo 2022.2, everything is fine there.

How are you "going back to 2202.2? Do you have both installed? With equivalent databases? Are you sure you have the 2022.2 Server (not client) completely shut down when you try 2023.1?

Glenn and Korey said, this is not a general problem with 2023.1. Many users are using this combination successfully, so we need to figure out what's different about your setup.

I restored a copy of my database from a backup. Since Indigo doesn't uninstall the old version when you install a newer one, I just re-started that version and pointed it to the new copy of the database.

2022.2 is fully shut down before I launch 2023.1. I can try disabling the plugin there in case a daemon is running behind the scenes, blocking the port. Happy to run whichever debug methods would be helpful in nailing down what's causing it, as well.

Interesting. None of my devices were published to the Homekit device.

I just went through and re-added them all and those versions are working, but not the ones originally added. Siri is confused because I have two of everything now. This is a mess.

Now I just need to move them all out of the "Default Room"..

Sounds like something messed up the device data for the HKLS server instance. Bad database copy?

What's the best way to delete all devices from the plugin? I think I need to start fresh and re-add everything that needs to be published.

When I look at my Home app, I see two copies of all devices with the same names, which is causing Siri to break. If I push the button of the device I just added (and is thus in the Default Room), it works. The original button does not (but also does not show as published to the plugin).


Edit: I think I found the source of my issue. Most of my devices were published through the "Homekit Bridge" plugin, which is no longer supported. I just need to find a way to unpublish all of those devices, start fresh with the HomeKitLink Siri, and then add the devices all to the HomeKitLink Siri plugin.

So my ask is: how do I nuke the configs for both of those plugins and start fresh with no published devices?.

They should be published into different bridges in HomeKit. You can remove the bridge in the Home iOS app. If you view settings on the non working version of a switch it should take you to that bridge.

Deleting both bridge devices from Indigo should do it. You should make sure the old Bridge plugin is disabled and then remove it from the Disabled Plugins folder.

But you might need to wait a while for that change to propagate to HomeKit. Deleting the bridges in the Home app would help.

Thanks for the replies.

Just to tie this off - essentially the issue here lay with the now fairly old Homekit Bridge plugin which will not work on Indigo 2023.1 given it is python 2 only. And given OS17 changes and HomeKit demands, security changes probably at risk of stopping working at anytime for most.

Homekit Bridge and HomekitLink Siri (this plugin, which is completely differently and solely Python based; with no homebridge needed to be run) can run at the same time if you really wish on <2023.1

Homekit Bridge - will not work at all on 2023.1 as is Python 2 only.

Removing non working devices and complete bridges in Home App is the best first step. As Homekit caches devices in iCloud and without removing them in Home app first can re-appear and cause issues.

There is no migration of HomeKit Bridge plugin devices to HomekitLink Siri plugin devices. I did consider it, but to quote Jay was non-trivial and device types and states are not immediately convertible and most need user input ideally. And as others have mentioned - there is also no avoiding re-setting up in Home App (as to the Home app they are all new devices with new security key pairing etc). This setup in the Home app is typically the most time consuming.
