Typical. One month after I buy an old airport express, not caring what generation and now see it's 1st Gen. This is not to be for me.

Ach it happens.. in all fairness unless you need multi room support (or the faster connection time) you won’t notice a difference!

Not exactly true. AirPlay 1 can't play to stereo HomePods.

And AirPlay 1 is at least a *little* more stable than AirPlay 2.

If you use Airfoil at all I would hold off on the update.

When I tried to use Airfoil and Sonos One speaker together Airfoil couldn't connect correctly. I wasn't concerned since there was the plug in but I also updated all my expresses and the same problem happened. Airfoil was unable to connect to any of my speakers. Once I rolled the update back all was fine.

That's true about Airfoil! It does not know how to handle stereo HomePods at all.

Ahh alas I don’t have any homepods . I’d love one in the kitchen though.. anyone wanna buy me one? Hehe!

That said I actually find airplay 2 more stable than airplay 1. I often used to get “the speaker is not available” errors all too often with my old system but I’ve not had a single one with Airplay 2 devices. It’s all been working brilliantly. I have slight sync issues with a couple of rooms just due to the delay in the amp processing the sound, but most rooms are powered by two identical 6x zone amps (old LivingControl Event devices) so everything is perfect through them! And they’re all the ones I want in sync anyway!
