Hi Jon.

The only time I've seen that error in the log is when I'm having network issues and my Indigo server is unable to connect to the Hue hub for some reason. The Hue Lights plugin attempts to check the Hue lights status every 8 seconds, so if your Indigo server doesn't have continuous network access to the Hue hub for more than 8 seconds, you'll see that error. If communication becomes unreliable, you'll probably want to start troubleshooting the network connections involved. That can become complicated fairly quickly, but I'd start by using the Hue app on an iPhone, iPod touch or iPad to make sure you can communicate with the Hue hub. If that works, then there might be an intermittent network issue between your Indigo server and the router, or between the router and the Hue hub.

Note also that, in order to work properly, the Hue Lights plugin requires that your Hue hub always have the same IP address. You might need to set your router to always give your Hue hub the same IP address every time it asks for one.

This occurs approximately every 2 minutes...

During this same time frame I've had a continuous ping going from the server to the Hue hub, and it hasn't missed a single ping, and ping times are under 0.2 ms. I too am confused as to what might be the cause. It seems as though the commands still go through to the lights with no problems. Let me know if there is anything I can do to help figure this out. I am using version 1.0.1 of the plugin.

No worries. That's helpful. At least we know its not because the hub is completely unreachable
and that it's not because it's changing IP addresses. How many Hue bulbs do you have? If you have a lot, maybe all the status requests are overloading the hub. Not sure. Shouldn't be though. That its happening every 2 minutes doesn't seem to correspond with anything in the Hue Loghts plugin timing.

Could you turn on debug logging in the Hue Lights configuration just before these errors start to appear? Paste the result in your response. That may help figure it out too.

Interesting. I hope the price isn't as predicted though. $90 for a 2-foot LED strip is ridiculous (especially given that you have to already have a Hue starter kit for an additional $200).

Yea, LightLink may indeed be what kickstarts ZigBee's long overdue entry into more mainstream home automation. Let's hope so.

Also in the meantime I have another problem (since begining but I have 6.0.0 b7), when I put a ramp rate value for any lamp, HUE of Whites, it works only for 60 seconds or less. If I put more it make the correct dimming during the first 60s (for example from 100% to 50% if I put ramp rate to 120), but then it turns off suddenly.

Just got the bulbs and the plugin. I set a default ramp rate for one of the bulbs to 5 seconds and when I turn the bulb on and off there is a jolt to about 15-20% brightness then a smooth ramp up to 100% over that time. Is this expected behaviour or should it be smooth from 0-100 and 100-0? I haven't had time to play with the plugin fully, though from reading the other comments it seems pretty baked and I am looking forward to further experimentation.

I can add those IDs to the recognized IDs in the plugin. I'd like to fully support everything that the Hue hub can control, but I can't justify spending $90 for a 6-foot LED strip (for which I don't currently have a use) and $80 for a Bloom LED ambient light device (which I can't find a use for as yet either). So until I can get my hands on those for less I can only make the Hue Lights plugin pretend like those are Hue bulbs. This should work in most cases, but there are always quirks between what manufacturers say devices are going to do in the specs and APIs and what those devices actually do. I'll post a plugin update soon that should work with those models, but I won't be able to officially support them until I can get my hands on the hardware itself.

I pledged 4 LIFX bulbs through Kickstarter and I am curious if LIFX hardware behaves similarly to Hue's. I posted a question on their campaign to see if they are willing to show a video from off to 100% and vice versa.

So far so good. Minus the error below but after I added the lightstrip I was able to create a device and control basic on/off dim/brighten. Still haven't had a chance to experiment with other functionality (even with the standard bulbs) but will report back any anomalies.

I'll try to clear up that error with another update. It appears that Philips hasn't yet posted any information in their API docs regarding which parameters are and are not valid for the LightStrips and other newly supported lights, so it's kind of trial-and-error at this point until they share more details. The "ct" parameter is for color temperature, which (apparently) the LightStrips don't support.
