How to announce plugins

There does not seem to be one channel for announcing new plugins (beta and release), and plugin updates. We have this forum (Extending Indigo with Plugins and Python), User Contributions, the 3rd Party developer's forum, plus other forums that may be appropriate for the plugin target area (Home Automation, INSTEON, etc.).

At the risk of creating yet another forum topic, could we have a forum strictly limited to plugin related announcements, much like the Indigo Announcement's forum. I think it would have to be moderated (I would be willing to help). Each post would have to provide either a link to the plugin software (which might be in the User Contribution Library), an external website or another forum where more information, discussion, etc. would be available.

While providing a convenient means of communication between plugin developers and the general user community, this forum would also serve as a rough index of the plugins that are available.

The completed plugin section of the wishlist on the wiki is sorta doing double-duty for this purpose. But it's not for specific revisions but rather just for plugin ideas that have been implemented.

I'm very hesitant to create yet another forum. I'll continue to maintain the wish list in it's current form (including completed plugins) and I suggest that developers announce new versions in their forums in the 3rd party section (you can have your own Announcements thread for instance). I think that combined with searching the file library (and once we get the plugin store done it'll be more straight-forward) will be enough for people to successfully find plugins. If not, we'll do some more brainstorming.

Ok, I can understand the desire to keep to forums as simple as possible. So how about this:

1) Could you add a sticky topic to the 3rd Party Developers forum, with one post like:

• Subject: For more plugin information...
  A list of planned and completed plugins is available in the wiki on the plugin wish list page

and then,
2) Could you add one column to the completed plugin table for the release number. This would be with the caveat that you would only update the release number if notified by the developer AND when you had time.

Tell you what - you have edit permission on the wish list page (from your previous wiki editing experience). You're more than welcome to add a version # column to the completed plugins table if you maintain it.

Don't worry about adding version numbers to the built-in plugins since the only time we rev them is when we release a new Indigo build.
