3rd party soil moisture sensor support

Post by siclark »

Soil sensors can now drive your Netro watering — automatically

This release lets you link real soil-moisture sensors to your Netro zones, so Netro's smart scheduling works from what's actually happening in your beds rather than its own forecast — and without building a single Indigo trigger.

Open any Netro Zone device's settings and you'll find a new External Soil Sensors section. Pick any Indigo device that measures soil moisture — Zigbee, Z-Wave, MQTT, it doesn't matter — then pick which of its states holds the reading and add it. Different sensors store their reading under different state names (sensorValue, soilMoisture, humidity and so on), so you choose the state explicitly, and you can tell the plugin whether the sensor reports 0–100 percent or a 0.0–1.0 fraction.

From then on it's hands-off: whenever a linked sensor reports, the plugin sends the reading to Netro using its moisture-override API, and the zone's moisture state in Indigo tracks the same value. You'll see a line in the event log each time — "Pushed averaged soil moisture 68% (1 of 1 sensors)..." — and identical readings are never sent twice, so your Netro API allowance isn't wasted.

A few thoughtful extras:

You can link several sensors to one zone and choose how they combine — average them, or take the minimum (water when the driest spot says so) or maximum. And if a sensor dies quietly in the garden, the optional "ignore readings older than X days" setting stops its stale value dragging the result while the others carry on. The "N of M sensors" count in the log always shows when something's being excluded.

Also fixed in this release: the spurious "UI dynamic list function returned illegal ID string" errors that appeared when opening zone settings or the Start Zone with Delay action, and manual moisture overrides (the Set Zone Moisture action or a zone-moisture variable) now correctly hand control back to the sensors afterwards.

Let me know if this is useful or any amendments to make. I am still thinking how to use this with my zones. I have tested with a third reality sensor https://www.thirdreality.com/products/s ... 1361131744 which whilst only battery seem more useful than the Netro ones that need solar as mine get covered up by all the plants in the summer. And this way if the sensor dies, Netro goes back to its own estimate of moisture than if you paired a Netro Whisperer sensor directly in the app.
