Domio 2.0 — What's New

It's been a busy few weeks since Domio launched. What started as an Indigo specific replacement for Apple Home has grown into something much bigger. Today I want to share what's new in version 2.0.

Push Notifications

The feature people have been asking about most. (well Durosity mainly but I am actually really excited about this).

Domio 2.0 brings native push notifications to your Indigo home. When a door opens, a temperature drops, or an automation needs attention — your iPhone tells you instantly. Tap the notification and you're taken straight to the device, control page, or scene. Push notifications are free for all Domio users, with no limits. Replace pushover and have your history right in the same app you control your house with.

Install the Domio Push plugin on your Indigo server, create your triggers, and notifications just work. Want to click on a notification and go to a control page, or a specific device, or see the log for an error, simple setup in the action, with deep link setup and no copying and pasting device ids required.

Device History

Ever wondered what the temperature in your living room looked like overnight? Or when that light was last turned on?

Open any device, pick a time range — 1 hour, 6 hours, 24 hours, 7 days, or 30 days — and see how things have changed. Temperature trends, on/off patterns, energy usage, humidity — anything your SQL Logger records, right there in the app. Once the Domio plugin is installed, there is no more setup on the Mac, no creating dashboards or charts. It just works.

Voice Gets Smarter

The voice assistant now supports four AI providers — Claude, ChatGPT, Grok, or a local model running on your network. It understands HVAC modes ("set the bedroom to cool"), asks clarifying questions when a command is ambiguous, and works from your Apple Watch too. Do not expect same performance from a local LLM as you get with cloud, they are much faster.

We've also added device type classification. Tag a smart plug as "Light" and when you say "turn off all the lights in the living room", it's included. The app auto-detects most devices from their names, but you can override anything with a long-press — all from your phone, no Indigo client needed.

Widgets That Stay Fresh

Home screen widgets now update in the background via silent push notifications. Your thermostat readings, light status, and device states stay current without opening the app. Add the silent push notification action to triggers for when your widget devices change.

And One More Thing...

CarPlay.
Pull into your driveway and tap "I'm Home" right from your car's dashboard. Toggle lights, run scenes, and use voice control — all hands-free. Your Indigo favourites are right there on the CarPlay screen.

This is a really amazing product. I don't use CarPlay but I'm borrowing a car that needs it. Domio is a game changer here.

Turning notifications back on in Domio
If you tapped Not Now (or Don’t Allow) when Domio first asked about notifications, you can switch them on at any time. Because iOS only ever shows that permission pop-up once, this is done from the iOS Settings app — then Domio re-registers itself automatically.
Step 1 — Allow notifications in iOS Settings
1. Open the iOS Settings app.
2. Scroll down and tap Domio. (Or go to Settings → Notifications → Domio.)
3. Turn Allow Notifications ON.
4. Optionally enable Lock Screen, Notification Centre, Banners, Sounds, and Badges to choose how alerts appear.
Step 2 — Enable Background App Refresh (recommended)
This lets your home-screen widgets stay up to date.
1. Go to Settings → General → Background App Refresh.
2. Make sure it’s ON, and that Domio is enabled in the list.
Step 3 — Reopen Domio
1. Launch the Domio app and wait for it to connect to your Indigo server.
2. That’s it — Domio automatically registers your device for push, connects to the notification relay, and tells your Indigo server where to send alerts. No further action needed.
Step 4 — Confirm it worked
In the app, go to Settings → Notifications and check:
• Push Notifications: Enabled
• Relay: Online
• Device Registered: ✓
If all three look good, you’re set. The orange “Notifications are disabled” banner on the Home tab will also disappear.
Tip: A quick shortcut — if you see the orange “Notifications are disabled” banner on the Home tab, just tap Open Settings on it to jump straight to Domio’s iOS notification settings, then follow Step 1.

1 more step, reboot iphone. Once I did that, then the app showed the completed notification stuff, device name, relay online, and device registered.

However, indigo side still shows 0 registerd devices. Restarted indigo server. Nothing. Tried logging out of app (fyi, don't do that if you havn't exported your rooms yet) Logged back in.

App started back up. Logged back in. (I have questions about local connection.) Reflector, no problem. Local connect =

Hmm not sure why it’s not showing on indigo side., I’ll try and do some debug with a different device.

A popup warning would have been cool.... but luckily, it only takes a few minutes to set up a full house of devices with your app.

Indigo Server "Not registered"
"Registered witht eh relay, but couldn't save this device to your Indigo server (server erro 500). It will retry automatically while connected to indigo."

This pops up in the indigo log as soon as I go to the Notifications menu on the app....

Side note. All the DSC Alarm stuff is working great. Motion and Doors are all responding. I really like how it's alphabetical until something triggers then moves to the top of the list. Makes it super easy to figure out why there is a number next to Security.
