Domio and location

Over the years there have been lots of ways, none perfect, to set location in Indigo.

Home Remote app. Find my friends, WiFi detection. All have their disadvantages, multiple apps, background location impacting battery.

With shortcuts recently this was possible but required some basic scripting and clicking approve each time the shortcut ran.

Now with Domio it’s as easy as setting up a basic automation. As this triggers from your iPhone’s knowledge of location it doesn’t need Domio to have location tracking on or run in the background.

In shortcuts app create a new automation




Select leave or arrive and Run Immediately




Then select New shortcut and search for Domio and select Set Variable, or your choice of action.




Choose the variable name and set to the relevant value.





Now turn off all the complicated location logic you have setup. .

The one slight downside to this is getting a notification from shortcuts every time it runs. But other than that, great use case!

Yes. And no option to not show or to move to summaries. But better than having to approve or battery drain.

Looks a little different on my end once you get to the shortcut part. Search actions, start typing in Dom (stop there) to populate everything under dom.io. Most of the options don't do anything... Execute Action Group, Toggle Device, Open Control Page, Set Indigo Variable. (They will go to the next screen, but you can't select a variable or anything.)...

Set Variable to Value. Click on "Variable", -> new screen " No options available"

However, keep scrolling down they you see "Run Indigo Sceen with several options below it, Toggle Indigo Devices, Set Indigo Light Brightness, Turn Off Indigo Device and Turn On Indigo Device. All of those have devices/actions associated with those options. I selected "Turn On Indigo Device" and when I get home it will turn on a virtual device "Bill Is Home".

So, it will work.
