Connected but not Connected

I have an older Lifx Strip, that I can control from my phone, but not thru Indigo.

I've reloaded the plugin a few times... and when I try to edit the Device Settings, in the popup, it is not there. It IS connected to the internet, I can control it from my phone via WiFI, so not sure what the issue is.

I've powered it down for several minutes and the devices go into "recovery" mode, and once powered back on, the plugin finds the strip, and appears to send commands, but the light doesn't respond. So Indigo THINKS it's connected and controlling it.... but it's not.

Any suggestions ?

So it is discovered OK when the plugin starts and you get the Starting and Started message pair?

What does the Device Window show in the Model and Firmware columns?

When you say " I try to edit the Device Settings, in the popup, it is not there", can you post a screen capture so that I can understand what is shown, or not as the case may be?

so it appears to be paired, connected and working in Indigo. I can send a color change to the light, and Indigo doesn't belch, or throw out an error in the log.... but the light doesn't change color

and don't know if this will help but the device in question is the "MBR Left Strip". Even after the Action Group execution, the light itself doesn't respond. And before you dig toooo deep, I think I should probably re-initiate the device in question to see if that fixes it. I just won't have time to do that right now.

But even when Indigo doesn't change the light, the app on my phone does.

So my 2 strips are up near the ceiling and are powered by 1 on/off switch. I did the on/off 5 times, and got both onboarded to the app on my phone. Both continue to work correctly with the iPhone software.

Back in Indigo, I reloaded the plugin, went thru and re-connected the both the Right (good) and Left (bad) strip, and Indigo "sees" both of them. I can execute an action group to change the colors, and in Indigo, it appears that the Left Strip is executing the color change. But it's not doing anything. All while I can control it from the iPhone app.

The plugin has worked find for years, so at this point I can only assume something happened to the device itself that's making it not respond to Indigo.

If you have any interest in looking into this more, I can easily output whatever logs you'd like to see.

That's perplexing. :?

If both strips are OFF and the LIFX App sees them as OFF and Indigo sees them as OFF, what happens in Indigo if you turn ON both strips via the LIFX App.

After a few minutes, they should both show as ON in Indigo.
So does one show ON but not the other?

OK sooooo

1. starting with both strips ON
2. Turn both off from Indigo, which indicates both are OFF
3. Left strip still ON, so turn it OFF from the iOS app, and both are shown as OFF in the iOS app.
4. Turn both ON from the iOS app
5. Waiting a bit, then Indigo indicates both are ON.

I have an Action Group to control colors for both strips, so execute to turn them to RED.
Indigo indicates both devices are RED, but Left Strip is not Red.

Now, the really interesting thing is.... on the strip that is the problem, when I select its Device, and edit its Device Settings, the L IFX Device is still listed as "Select LIFX device", but my problematic strip isn't an option to select. So for whatever reason, Indigo doesn't "SEE" the problem strip at all. I can manually enter the IP and MAC address, then the device stays in "Starting" mode, even after a plugin restart.

Bottom line is Indigo just doesn't see that problematic strip for some reason.

I'm happy to do/try whatever you like if, so just let me know what. I can even delete everything from Indigo, re-initialize the 2 strips from the iOS app and start over... don't mind trying, but just not sure what else to do.

Agreed it's a very odd problem since they are under iOS control and obviously connected to the network. Both strips get their IP address from the reservations on my router... so might try changing the IP address of the problem one on the off chance that IP address is causing fits in Indigo for some reason. Let me try that and I'll report back shortly.

Update:
The problematic strip has a new IP address. I've deleted the old device from Indigo, but when I go to add a new one, it does not show up in the popup menu, so agin, Indigo just doesn't / can't / won't see it.

Please restart the plugin and post the discovery entries that the LIFX plugin outputs to the Indigo Event Log e.g. from:

That should show us what the plugin thinks it is controlling along with the MAC and IP info.

OK so keep in mind that I deleted the Left Strip from Indigo, and can't get it back since Indigo doesn't "see" it. I could grab an older version of the Indigo database(it gets backed up nightly) but for now, here is the log in debug mode. And again, can still control the problem device via the iOS app.

I think you have a more fundamental issue? :?

When you start the plugin, the discovery isn't finding any LIFX lamps which is definitely wrong.
It should always discover LIFX devices on your network when it starts up.
The plugin is depending on the info already stored in the Indigo LIFX devices (from when discovery was working) to communicate with the LIFX lamps.

This seems to suggest some sort of network issue that is preventing discovery from working.

Are you running the latest version of the plugin - v2025.0.1 released on May 22, 2025?

Yes running the latest plugin.

Aside from changing the IP address in the last day, I haven't done anything else to the networking concerning this light.

I'm actually in the middle of doing some re-modeling, and the strip is mounted very near the ceiling, so will have to come down when they start to paint. When that happens, I'll take a look and see what, if anything I can find. Halfway hoping there is a master reset(more than just turning on/ off 5 times), and that will get me back to where I should be.

I agree there is something more fundamental... but don't think this is a networking issue, as the iOS app runs on the same network as the strips do. I have had a few power blips recently so not sure how that may have affected things, but I guess anything is possible.

As I've said before, the plugin has worked flawlessly for years now, so don't suspect this is some kind of weird bug.

For the moment, stay tuned....

so got the light strip down from the ceiling and there is no "button" do do a reset on it. Might try to on/off it several times just to see what happens... but again.... at this point, seriously doubt this is a software issue.

Might just have to buy a new one... 8)

And.... just out of wild curiosity.... if I were to connect my Indigo Server to the same temp WiFi network for LIFX setup, might that allow me to ADD it to Indigo, then go thru the normal start up process to get the light on my regular WiFi network?

So now I'm just dazed and confused.
Since one of my strips wasn't working properly, I decided to buy a new one. The one I got is 120" long and has 24 zones, pretty much like the others I have. This one on-boards to the iOS app via a QR code, and doesn't use an ad-hoc WiFi network for start up. And while the light works perfectly in the Lifx app, it doesn't show up in Indigo. I've re-started the plugin, the server software, and the computer, all to no avail.

So is this new strip compatible with the plugin?

The other weird thing is in troubleshooting, I created a new, blank Indigo database, and don't see any of the Lifx devices, and none are discovered. I can add my OLD devices(save for the one that just won't connect), by using the MAC and IP address, but when I do the same for the new strip, all I get is "starting". When I re-start the plugin , all devices say "waiting on discovery", and the older 2 devices that were working previously work just fine, but the new strip remains in the "starting..." mode.

Back to Question #1... is my new strip compatible with the plugin, and if so, what's the best way to get it to connect to Indigo?

and just one more thing... in thinking there might be some file somewhere on the system that is corrupted or otherwise not doing its thing, shut down the computer running Indigo, got a trial license, started the indigo server on a totally separate computer, install the Lifx Plugin, but still discovery doesn't discover anything. Same rules apply: I can manually add 2 of my original 3 lights via IP and MAC address, but not the older one that wasn't working or newest one. And all FOUR show up in the Lifx iOS app and can be controlled.
