Hue Lights discussion

I'm getting the following message every minute or so:
Hue Lights Error Failed to load sensors list from the Hue bridge at 192.168.1.43 after 4 seconds - check settings and retry.

When I reload the plugin, or reload the config, I see:

Hue Lights Loaded 1 sensor.

But then after a few minutes I get the error again. To my knowledge, I have no Hue sensors. I simply have a number of lights.

Any ideas?

I've never seen the plugin not be able to load sensors but be able to load everything else. Do you have the version 1 round or the version 2 square Hue bridge? The old round one may not be able to handle how often the Hue Lights plugin asks it for a sensor status update. Have you installed the latest firmware version? The latest version was released July 22, 2019.

As for the 1 sensor, that's normal. All Hue bridges come with at least 1 built-in sensor to indicate whether it's day or night (based on time of day). You can't delete it. It's essentially like the Indigo built-in variable "isDaylight" which is read-only as well.

Thanks for responding to both my requests. I do have the newer hub and the latest firmware. Don't worry about it though - it doesn't seem to affect anything.

Sorry I couldn't help more.

Some other things to consider as possible contributing factors to the intermittent sensor read failure:

1. If you have virtual assistants (or any other home automation software) that interface with the Hue (like Alexa or Google, SmartThings, etc.), they may be making somewhat frequent update requests to the Hue bridge just like the Hue Lights plugin does and the bridge may be occasionally refusing to reply as a way to prevent denial-of-service attacks against itself. This is a built-in feature of the Hue bridge. If you only have 1 or maybe 2 things talking to the bridge frequently, it isn't an issue, but if you have a few things making frequent requests, the bridge may "throttle" back its responses. The Hue Lights plugin requests sensor updates every 1 second, which is pretty frequent, but important for fast motion sensing and switch button press sensing. Other apps or virtual assistants may be doing the same thing.
2. If you're noticing other intermittent network or Indigo server issues, that may be related too, though I think this is rather unlikely since the problems are only happening with sensor update requests.

Hi there!

I am having trouble adding a new bulb in Indigo. When I look at the debug logs, the plugin sees the bulb and is loading the details about it, but when I attempt to add it as a new device, it doesn't appear in the drop down to choose from. I did notice that the two bulbs I tried doing this with are new and their software version is newer than my other bulbs. All of my older bulbs are 1.46.13_r26312, but these two new ones have 1.53.3_r27175 installed. I am running the latest version of the Hue Lights plug in as well.

Any help is greatly appreciated!

• Fixed a bug with the Hue Smart Plug where current on/off state would not update.
• Fixed a bug where using the Indigo's built-in Toggle On/Off action failed with dimmable Hue devices.

@kkreitzer: This should fix the problem of your new lights not showing up in the list of lights to control.

I'm using a few hue bulbs behind z-wave switches, or on lamps with conventional switches (in addition to a number that are permanently powered, and hopefully maintaining the Zigbee network...). It enables me to provide occasional dimming, colour control, or 'party mode' with out loosing the usability of a conventional light switch.

But as soon as 240 volts is switched off to a hue bulb the indigo log fills with hue errors.


What would be the best way to suppress these messages without disabling the plugin?

Could you post an example of the errors you see? There’s currently no way to control the number of error messages, but maybe I can reduce duplicate message in a future version.

I'm delighted (and embarrassed) that I can't replicate this! The plugin behaves perfectly!

I've been running two hubs and two instances of the plugin (now consolidated to one) and I think what I was seeing was actually ra comms problem to one of the hubs (an offline hub does fill the logs...but thats reasonable).
