I think you're the first person I've seen that is using POP with Gmail. OK, I need you to set the logging to "Detailed Debugging" and run the same test.

That does seem to work for most people.

Since the error you got mentioned unicode, I'm cleaning up the code to be more unicode friendly. This was the first plugin I wrote, so it's not as clean as my more recent ones.

I switched to IMAP, will try it.

Also, are you by chance familiar with http digest authentication and using restful API to run actions on into server
