Alexa-Hue Bridge Plugin (old locked topic)

OK, now Alexa discovered the devices in the plug in but they all show as offline.... I tried reloading the plug in but that didn't help.

If anyone has succeeded in getting a simple Skill to work with Indigo, I'd really appreciate some guidance so I can give this a try.

Thanks. I found that tonight too. Looked at it but don't fully understand what's going on yet. I would think some kind of basic plug-in would be needed to receive the response and be the Indigo threshold process. Having never written a plug in either I fee a bit like someone waking up in a completely dark room....

But after I read the thread where Matthew Reynolds link was found, it seems as what I visualize is basically what he is talking about. It appears doing this requires the use of the prism reflector? I have never used that either, and don't see why it couldn't be set up to transmit to a url where the server lives. But again, I don't even know enough to be dangerous.

What I DO know, however, is all my plug in Alexa devices show up as "offline" to Alexa, and Jay seems to be AWOL....

I'm not sure how to get them working exactly, but make sure that the device communication in Indigo is enabled (right-click on the device and enable the communication if it isn't), then I'd try restarting the plugin and re-running the discovery. Jay is indeed out for the next several days.

Sorry for dropping into the middle of this. Did you say that you had a Hue Bridge? If so, have you tried unplugging it and then try to delete the devices controlled by the plugin and rediscover them?

Happy to have you jump in. You are suggesting that plug in devices should be discovered without a Hue bridge being online? I am happy to give that a try (I'm unfortunately out of town tonight), but Alexa had no trouble discovering and accessing all devices at the same time before. I did "forget" all the devices, but you are suggesting physically disconnecting the Hue Bridge.

Do you think this is a random anomaly, or something I may have to do whenever I make changes to my plug in devices?

Yes, unplug the Hue hub. There was a change that went into the last update that could possibly conflict with genuine hubs. I don't have any hue bulbs or a hub to try it out myself.

So, I didn't get back into town until last night. First thing I did was disconnect the Hue hub and Bingo--without having to do anything, all of the Indigo devices came online. So then I plugged the Hue back in. The Hue devices were still offline, so had Alexa discover devices again.

You guessed it-- the Indigo devices went offline again. So at the moment it's an either-or proposition. The two do not play together. This is odd, since they worked fine until the other day, so I guess the update broke it.

So here's an oddball question: I use Rogue Proliator's Onkyo plugin to control the receivers I have in several rooms. Of course I want to be able to command them with Alexa, and I have no trouble muting-unmuting them, changing inputs, etc. What is giving me a dickens of a time is controlling the volume.

I have actions which work perfectly fine for volume, but it seems that every word I use to call the command in the Echo, Alexa thinks applies to HER volume. Obviously I could give the commands weird names, but I want other people to be able to use this without having to learn a totally non-intuitive language. Is there any way to preface a command so Alexa knows it is from my profile and not directed to her?

Are your devices in the Hue Hub named the same as the devices in Indigo? If so, that's the problem. You can't have multiple devices with the same name.

No, they don't have any of the same names. They're all hue bulbs, named for the lights they're in. The plugin devices are almost all virtual devices named for what they do.
