[ANSWERED]: Is this plugin functional?

I just activated the plugin, but there's no configuration window. I can't specify the IP address of my receiver, and I can't create a device of this type to send commands to.

There's no PluginConfig.xml file in the plugin/Contents/Server PlugIn folder.

Bad install image? I'm running 6.0.12,

Re: Is this plugin functional?

The plugin doesn't create any new devices -- you just specify the IP address in the action panel for either action the plugin creates.

Re: Is this plugin functional?

Oh, I see. That was not at all obvious. :(

Wouldn't it be better to have an actual device that knows what it's IP address is? Was there some reason it was done this way?

Re: Is this plugin functional?

Mainly just so we could get the feature added, I would guess. Sometimes the difference between a 1 hour plugin and a 4 hour plugin, is the difference as to if it gets done or not. ;-)

I agree ideally the IP address would be abstracted into a device.

Re: Is this plugin functional?

Time to market was the driving factor. There are a few other features I'd like to add some day and at that time I'd make it a full-fledged device. But for the moment it works fine.

I thought the docs were pretty clear: the plugin provides 2 actions, each of which requires the IP address of the DVR... ;)

Re: Is this plugin functional?

It just never occurred to me to try and send an action to something other than a defined device. :)

Unfortunately, they deprecated the DVR commands in the SHEF protocol, so the plugin isn't as useful as it might have been. Being able to create a list of shows and pick one to play would have been fun.

I might take a shot at making it into a full device plugin before I write any from scratch. It would be kinda useful to be able to command the TV to turn on and go to a certain channel at a specific time of day (News, etc).

Re: [ANSWERED]: Is this plugin functional?

Just did a switch to DTV from Dish and am liking the plugin with my HR44 receiver.
It would be really nice to have access to some devices states as well, especially on/off,
so I could sync my TV power with the receiver.

Thanks,

Carl

Re: [ANSWERED]: Is this plugin functional?

Does anyone have any recommendations for batch command changes when my direcTV box randomly changes IP? I have about 40 buttons on a layout and I would like to not have to go in and change every action.

Have your router give it the same IP address every time and you won't have that issue...

I've tried to accomplish this, but cannot figure out how to do so. Is there not an XML output where I could find/replace the IP address? It has only changed once in about 10 months.

For some reason my directv box is unassignable from the ip allocation tab.

I was able to manually set the IP from the directTV box itself. Problem solved.

Re: [ANSWERED]: Is this plugin functional?

I've just begun to use this, and while it's helpful and works great, I'd really love to be able to just define each receiver once as a device. And if I want to get really dreamy, it'd be cool if it tracked states too (not sure if that's possible with DirecTV's protocol or whatever, but can't hurt to ask.)

This plugin isn't getting a lot of use really, so any modifications to it are really low on the priority list. I'd be willing to open-source it if someone else wanted to tackle making any updates.

I would probably be willing to give it a try. You going to put it on GitHub?
