DIRECTV SHEF GENIE CLIENTS

Hello, trying to control genie clients according to a shef manual i found there is a html string to specify client number for the boxes, any tips on how to get these clients to work with the directv plugin or other

Remote Key - http://STBIP:port/remote/processKey?key=string[&hold=string][&clientAddr=string]

I don't have one not test with. Can you email me (or send me the link) to the document you're referring to (support@indigodomo.com)? It was my understanding that the genie devices didn't support the SHEF api but I could be wrong.

Nope - unfortunately it's pretty low on the priority list and we've got a pile of work. If another developer wants to take a look that would be great.

Re: DIRECTV SHEF GENIE CLIENTS

I don't have a Genie to test anything with, but it's my understanding that the Genie mini boxes do understand shef, but that commands need to be sent to the main Genie unit, which will route them to the mini unit. I believe this is done by utilizing the MAC address of the mini box. Similar to your example, a command to press the channel up button might look like this:

http://192.168.1.104:8080/remote/proces ... ntAddr=mac"

Where 192.168.1.104 is the address of your main Genie STB, and 'mac' at the end is the MAC address of the Genie mini you would like the command sent to.

If that is accurate, direct URL commands could be coded in actions with Python scripts, even if the current Directv plugin can't handle them.

I am currently eligible for a DTV equipment upgrade, and am debating about going to the Genie, or just updating to current HD/DVR receivers. I would hate to lose channel control of my devices...

@gtreece, take a serious look at the Genie (HR44). I just installed one last week. Small, quiet, extremely fast menus, large disk and pip make it a a much better box than their older DVRs. If you still have HR21s, I would suggest considering a Geni and minis in their place

Re: DIRECTV SHEF GENIE CLIENTS

@sparky, do you control your Genie and minis with Indigo? I'd be giving up a lot, if I couldn't continue to control my STB's with control pages. Have you tested the URL control method noted in this thread?

No, I was just commenting on how good they were as independent boxes. I am really surprised. if you send me a simple testcase/code snippet I am happy to try it for you.
