Now THAT was weird; not sure which forum to post this in, but when I updated from 5.1.2 to 5.1.3, one of my Radio Shack temperature sensors quit being updated...no errors in the log or any other indications of problems, but no change of any of the states until I opened and then closed the device dialog for it, when it came back immediately and has been solid since.

Sounds like it got in to a bad state somehow. If you see the problem again, try restarting just the RFX plugin (via the Plugins menu).

I don't think the problem is related to the 5.1.3 upgrade directly since the plugin isn't part of that, but it is probably related to the fact that Indigo Server (and all the plugins) were stopped and restarted.

I realize you provided a reply some months ago, but I only discovered your post a few hours ago as I was investigating if it was possible to make the RFXLAN work with a Mac application that presently supports the RFXrec433.

For the past few days I'd been hoping that the serial data that was put out by 433 MHz receiver portions of the RFXLAN and RFXrec433 was the same, and that as a result, there wasn't a difference between the serial data at the COM port (regardless of whether the COM port is Eterlogic VSPE or USB FTDI).

Put another way (describing this from a Windows perspective) regardless of whether someone was using Eterlogic's COM Port redirector/Virtual Serial Port Emulation (as mentioned in the RFXLAN user guide) with the RFXLAN, or using the FTDI USB Serial adapter driver with the RFXrec433, the data coming in the COM port would be the identical (assuming identical 433MHz devices).

This would enable a Windows application that worked with the serial data from the FTDI USB COM port to work without changes with the serial data that came in the Eterlogic VSPE COM port.

Similarly, on a Mac, one could use MultiCom to create a virtual tty that receives a data stream from port 10001 of the RFXLAN, and the serial data received on the MultiCom virtual tty would be the same serial protocol received through the FTDI USB driver's tty interface. Given this, a Mac application that supports the RFXrec433 using the USB FTDI serial adapter driver would also work with the RFXLAN.

The diagram on this page seemed to confirm my hope that a single serial protocol was used, regardless of whether it came from an RFXLAN or RFXrec433:

But, your comment a few months ago that the RFXLAN and RFXrec433 don't use the same protocol casts doubt on my hopes I could find a way to make the RFXLAN work with a Mac application that supported the RFXrec433 (using a USB FTDI driver).

So, just to confirm my understanding of your comment that the protocols used by the RFXLAN & RFXrec433 are different, please confirm whether or not this statement is accurate:

"The serial data stream received on a Eterlogic's VSPE COM port (from an RFXLAN that's receiving data from 433 MHz devices) is not the same as the serial data stream received on on a FTDI USB COM port (from an RFXrec433 that's receiving data from 433 MHz devices), and an application that works with both of these RFX devices must deal with these different protocols."

That diagram is a very old page showing the older LAN /USB solutions.

The RFXrec433/RFXtrx433 use a completely different but much simpler protocol compared to the RFXLAN and older USB receivers/transmitters.

Forgive my persistence, but I'd like to know whether the RFXLAN's "simpler protocol" is a serial data stream that can be received by the Eterlogic VSPE / COM port redirector from port 10001 on the RFXLAN, or if it's a fundamentally different approach (i.e., not handled by a VSPE / COM port redirector).

If the RFXLAN uses a serial data stream (handled by a VSPE / COM port redirector), is it the same as what was used in any of the older USB RFX receivers? What about the discontinued RFXe's serial data stream? Is it the same as any of the older USB RFX receivers?

If the RFXe's or RFXLAN's serial data stream is the same as in an older USB receivers, what are the model numbers of those older USB receivers? Did they use an FTDI USB serial adapter IC, thus appearing as a COM port in Windows (or a tty interface in Mac OS X)?

I think you can see where I'm going with these questions...

If the RFXe's or RFXLAN's serial data stream is the same as in the older USB RFX receivers, and Indigo supported those older USB RFX receivers, then it should (theoretically) be possible to get Indigo to support the RFXLAN/RFXe (using something like MultiCom as a COM/tty port redirector).

So, please let me know whether the RFXe/RFXLAN serial data stream is the same as what's used by those old USB receivers. If the RFXe is the same as the older USB receivers, do you happen to have any left over that you'd sell to me?

If it isn't the same, Is there a process by which I can get the technical details about the RFXLAN's network protocol? I'm okay with writing C code to open a socket and read [raw] data from the RFXLAN.

If it is the same, then the question goes to the Perceptive Automation folks: Does Indigo support the older USB RFXCOM receivers Bert says share the same protocol as the RFXLAN/RFXe?

To the other folks on the forum: I won't waste your time and Perceptive's pixels going into the details, but please take me at my word that USB extension is a non-option for me. It might be an option for you, but it's not for me, so there's no need to talk about it in the forum. If you feel you really really must talk about it with me, let's please take it out of the forum. I don't want to bore others in the forum with a nauseatingly technical discussion of the vageries of the various extension approaches, nauseatingly technical USB electrical & protocol details, and why each of the extension approaches isn't an option for me.

Point being, I either need to find a way to make RFXLAN work on a Mac, preferably with Indigo (but if not with Indigo, perhaps I'll write my own code), or I won't be able to use an RFX receiver.

(Not using Mac OS X, and/or not using Indigo are hypothetical options, but I've already discarded them)

I don't know the answer to your protocol question, but I do know that Indigo only supports the older USB RFXCOM in W800 emulation mode. That is, it can receive the basic X10 RF and X10 Security RF data, but not the commands coming from other hardware / protocols.

I have a LightwaveRF remote control which has 16 different buttons on it all under one house code, each button is a unit code which either sends On or Off. At the moment i need to have 16 different devices setup in Indigo for all the different options.. would it be possible to somehow consolidate them all into one? It’d make triggers/actions/etc so much more weildy.. plus i plan to get another couple and i don’t want to end up with 60 odd different devices :)

First entry is button 1 on, then button 1 off, then button 2 on, button 2 off. (there’s a total of 16 on off buttons). The 5th entry is the ‘All Off’ command and the 6th is the “Mood” option. Hope this helps :)

I Built a LWRemote in the plugin.
It is the same as a LWSwitch but without the unitcode setting.
Instead the unitcode is a state of the device, so in a trigger you can check the unitcode and command.
The makes it possible to use one trigger for one remote with several switches.
The plugin first checks if a LWSwitch device with the right address and unitcode exists. If not it will check for a LWRemote device with the right address.
The log will look like this:

Would it be possible to make the LightwaveRF remote modification for HomeEasy devices as well? Same concept, devices with the same house code but differing unit codes. Eg:

This was for a home easy ES312Sv2 remote, but i have various others that work in exactly the same way.

Also on a minor side note whenever my next door neighbour uses one of their LightwaveRF remote controls i get the following errors in my logs even although the debug/log unknown sensor packets options are disabled in the RFXCOM plugin preferences window:

RFXCOM Error probably a LW Remote?

Is it possible to get a SmartWares outdoor switch box (SH5-SET-OB) to work using RFXCOM ? It operates on 433Mhz. I use this box to control my outside lights, would be great to get it working on a timer with Indigo.

The remote has 8 buttons (A, B, C, D, Master) on and offs.
