Beta Version 1.0 is in the apple TV Store now - "Kiosk Home"
Consider this more of a proof of concept...


Version 1.1 - which is much more polished, and adds better navigation support, webSocket connection for monitoring of variable changes, ability to set variable for page update, temporary views when error connections, Full screen overlay if Go to External URL exists (will try to render as static image every second - ideal for cameras etc).
Hopefully there shortly.... Animated APNG below

I tried this and it works but I’m trying to think of a use case - are you planning to have a TV dedicated to it (or have a way to switch to it on some type of event?).

So my use case is basically very similar to what the wall mounted iPads in my house display, albeit with more limited interaction. So the main one is that I tend to have a schedule of getting up at 5 for the gym, going downstairs, getting dressed. When I do go downstairs the room becomes 'occupied' and the tv turns on and opens an ancient app I have called DayView which had news headlines, weather, showed HomeKit cameras, estimated time to drive to the gym, etc, Unfortunately over the years since it was killed off the functionality in it has ceased working to the point where with tvOS 26 it basically became useless. So my plan is to build a control page that mimics that functionality, but can also integrate a lot more about what's going on in my house.. it could potentially highlight any problems with my network or something that may stop my wife from being able to work, so I can get that fixed before she wakes up.. turn on the car heating if needed... oh and make sure it's actually charged too I guess.

The second main reason I want it is for my bedroom tv and study tvs where I want to be able to monitor other things, such as the doorbell camera, my calendar for the day, etc..

I fully admit that the use case for it is kinda fringe, and tbh I was fully expecting GlennNZ to be like 'LOL what a stupid idea I'm not doing that' and I was gonna have to roll my own janky implementation .. but bless that man he's come through for me.

A couple of minor things that I'm hoping won't be too much work.

The variable control page seems to be working about 50% of the time. I can't quite see a pattern as to when it does work and when it doesn't. Also whenever the page does change it pops up with the 'Double Click Play To Return To Settings' message - any way to hide that as I'll probably have it cycling through pages every 10 seconds or so.

Is there any way to add an option to scale the page? One of the Apple TVs is hooked up to a 1080p and the others to a 4K, ideally I'd rather not have to have different pages for different resolutions (I appreciate some detail would be lost)

Can we suppress the screensaver from kicking in? One of them has snoopy come on after 3 mins (SWIMO ordained!)

Also I just realised that all pages are offset by about a third from the side and a third down the screen. I thought at first it was just because the tv I was using it on was the 1080p one and it was mis-rendering the 4k pages, but it does the same thing when I use one formatted for 1920 x 1080. I'll try to post a photo to show what I mean.

I’ll have a look - won’t be for a bit

The variable has to change for it to work - much like the iOS Kiosk Home. Not sure that quickly 10 s would be ideal - tvOS seems a bit more resistant to regular connections

Scaling wise - everything is scale according to the background image. Probably would test out options there - overall scaling not really an easy option given this is a swift page - not a webpage with built in scaling etc.

Screensaver - not sure possible - presume should be

Not on my testing they are not - my usual iPad page all render much the same as on iOS

I suspect will relate to the scale and aspect of your background image. We scale around this basically

Here’s a screenshot to show the issues I’m having. So I’ve created a brand new control page, with a blank background and set the size as 3840 x 2160 (I’ve also done this with 1920 x 1080 with same results so scaling seems to be working anyway)

On safari the page loads as expected:

The image that is showing is the one from the top left corner. I’ll test it on the 4k tv tomorrow.

Need an image background I would be guessing even if black

If no background image - I will have too add support for (maybe, and likely just a solid colour image ) but currently a image is important to set scale and aspect

Okay.

There is a new v1.2 coming

- Fixes no background image lack of support/Bug fix. (interestingly all my test backgrounds have images)
- Disable screen saver always (may add a setting). Haven’t tested this as remote for a bit - but code is there
- Harden Web Socket connection (this code is also shared with iOS code) so that will be in a later iOS Kiosk Home release.

All going to plan will be 12-24 hours away.
