Hue Pro bridge warning

The new Hue Pro bridge does NOT work with the current version of the Hue plugin. >>> September 2025. <<<

1. The communication is very different (how to get data in and out )
2. you can only migrate ONE old bridge to the new Pro
3. you can migrate Hue devices and links between hue devices to the new bridge, but NOT 3rd party devices
that means you need to manually reset and install ALL 3rd party devices and links on the new bridge

4. and finally >> never replace a debugged system with a brand new untested fancy shiny new model <<

As I have 3 active hue bridges & > 80 hue devices and several 3rd party devices I shall wait a little before I look into / try this.

I need to decide if I map the new structure to the old or older new in the existing plugin or write a new plugin

I believe new plugin is the way.
It is unlikely that someone has old and new bridges at the same time besides migrating

This is a big job.

And there is the migration. You can only migrate one bridge to the new one. I have 4. The rest must be done manually. That’s a big job too:
Reset lights+switches, relearn and configure 50+50devices.
That’s a big job too

@kw123 like @ppsepepe I didn't look at this before buying/installing the new bridge:(

I was thrilled that it handled more devices and faster so I quickly ordered hoping I could consolidate hubs. Migration within Hue for one hub was flawless but now all my devices on that hub show as "deleted".

Available for testing if needed.

Should I roll back to my old hub?

For now, I'm integrating with HomeSeer over MQTT, since their JowiHue plugin was updated to support either hub but I'm also available for testing if/when necessary. HomeAssistant also supports the new HUE bridge, but I need a better way to access Scenes.

I'm not migrating back to the old one, not in a million years I'm not... But I get it, for now, the old one is the one that almost everybody has. =)

I’ll likely have to migrate back. All the security lights are on the old hub but half of the interior lights (hub 1 of 3) migrated to the Hue Pro and we have seem to forgot what a light switch does

Any word from Phillips? My search shows "it will be here soon" but users are pretty much settled on next year?

I saw that HomeDepot (at least the one I go to) is only selling Hue bulbs that are WIZ connected. I wonder if that is the future and the whole Hue Pro hub was maybe the wrong way to go. I don't have WIZ experience and will dig into the differences for my use case but interested in your POV.

The old hue bridge is really stable.
Their light bulbs are high quality and expensive
They do not want to compete in the commodity market.

Philips dev is very Slow
Looking at the previous announcements I guess the multi bridge port is sometime 2 quarter next year

But even with that it will take me several days to port everything over AFTER I have a new working plugin

I have a Hue Zigbee bulbs but..... maybe I need some diversification.
Love that Indigo is open enough to allow people like yourself to build plug-ins but maybe getting to an age I just want plug-n-play:)

This maybe should be in another thread but I'd be curious of the pros/cons of wiz vs zigbee, ie: mesh, response time from Indigo, longevity, mstter....
While the bulbs are low cost they feel cheap yet I have had a few original Hue bulbs fail...mostly blink or something quirky.

Should a sticky or something be posted to warn folks not to buy the new Hue hub? I suppose the only people migrating are those that have reached the limit, have had a hub failure OR new purchase.

Karl - when you create a new topic, there should be options at the bottom, one of which is "Post topic as" -- set this to sticky. This presumes you have the right authorities for your forums.

@davel17. Any thoughts on Home Assistant vs Indigo? Seems like it supports the devices I use (hue, cameras, etc) but while open source is cool I’m concerned about longevity and keeping up with the flood of IoT changes.
