Issues Syncing new Zwave Devices
Issues Syncing new Zwave Devices
I have been using Indigo with Insteon for a long time and I wanted to try to add some more modules so I thought I would give Zwave a try. I purchased the HomeSeer SmartStick G8 800 Series Z-Wave Plus v2 adapter. I purchased a Minoston Z-Wave Plug 800 (MP31Z) and Shelly Wave Plug US 800 Series Smart Plug.
I was able to add the stick no problem (initially with a usb extention cable and later without). I was able to include the devices no problem, but every time I tried to sync it would time out for both devices. I tried excluding and including again with the same result. I removed the usb extention and had the modules within a couple of feet of the Zstick. I am unsure of what to try next or what the issue is, or if I should just return all these items.
I have some screenshots of the logs.

Please don't screen-shot or clip logs. Copy and paste the actual text. It's very hard to read screen shots and impossible to search.

I am not that great with a mac and I am remoting to the machine so that was the best I could do at the time. How do you export the log to a file? How do you open a notepad on mac?

Re: Issues Syncing new Zwave Devices
The log is in a file in a sub folder of the Indigo install directory. Or you can select the contents of the log window and copy.
Not sure what you mean by notepad. The default text editor on Mac is TextEdit.

Re: Issues Syncing new Zwave Devices
Everything in the Event Log window in Indigo is saved to a log file. You can access that file by pressing the Show Event Logs Folder button at the top of the log window. You can then double-click the file and it will open in a text editor.
But note you can also just select the text in the Event Log window itself and directly copy it there, then paste it into a forum post/email/etc.
I'm looking at the screenshot though and not sure what is going wrong. Are those the only 2 Z-Wave modules you have? Do you have any that are working?
Also, choose the Interfaces->Z-Wave->Reload menu item and copy/paste the Event Log window contents showing what it shows. The problem might be the HomeSeer SmartStick G8 800 you are using and that will give me more information about how it is identifying itself.

Re: Issues Syncing new Zwave Devices
Ok I will try the reload tonight and thanks for the tips on the file location and text editor for mac. I did have one aeotec outdoor switch that was laying around for years waiting for me to get a zwave stick. I don't have the model number or anything but I did also try that one with the same result. Those are the only z-wave devices I have.
If the stick is the issue, what is the recommend one to get?

Re: Issues Syncing new Zwave Devices
We've debugged more into this, and the problem definitely is Indigo doesn't know what internal SDK version the SmartStick G8 800 is using. Once we get the manufacture and model ID information we need (which will be in your Event Log after you reload the Z-Wave interface), we should be able to add support for that controller to the next release of Indigo.
Re: Issues Syncing new Zwave Devices
Ok I can get you that information. Then I think I will return this as I don't want to wait for the next release. What is the recommended stick to get?

Re: Issues Syncing new Zwave Devices
What version of Indigo are you running?
Based on the information in your Event Log, Indigo already has the model ID added for the HomeSeer SmartStick G8 800 in the most recent version.

Re: Issues Syncing new Zwave Devices
You'll need to upgrade to the most recent version. 7.1 is really old and there has been a lot of work done over the years adding support for additional Z-Wave interfaces and modules. I'm pretty sure the latest version will work with your interface and modules.
