Trouble connecting via reflector
Trouble connecting via reflector
Hi,
I am trying to connect to my server with my Mac using the reflector.
I get a message in the window that says "Failed to connect to Indigo Server. The Indigo Server is either unreachable over the network or is not running"
I can connect using a Dyndns address or using the WAN iP address. I can connect using Indigo Touch on my iPhone and using the reflector.

Re: Trouble connecting via reflector
Are you trying to connect the Mac client? That won't work - the reflector only connects the Indigo Web Server to the internet not the Mac client.
Re: Trouble connecting via reflector
That seems to be very limiting . Indigo Touch just doesn't have enough power to be able to modify a running indigo. Yes you can query the status of devices and variables, but you can't add triggers or schedules. Having the ability to use the Mac client remotely would greatly improve the remote functions of Indigo.
I would urge you to find a way for the Mac client to access the server via the reflector. Otherwise the reflector is just not that useful.

Re: Trouble connecting via reflector
The simple answer is to install Tailscale on your Indigo Server and also on your Mac Laptop.

The reflector is very useful, but maybe not for your use case. I use a VPN to connect the Indigo client remotely.mintzps wrote: I would urge you to find a way for the Mac client to access the server via the reflector. Otherwise the reflector is just not that useful.

Use Tailscale on the indigo server machine and on your laptop, then start your Mac client app.
The reflector is not though for use case like yours

Re: Trouble connecting via reflector
I see that, but why? Why is Reflector so limited? It would make more sense to have it built into Reflector.
I will try Tailscale.
Thanks

Too much potential bandwidth, I expect.

Re: Trouble connecting via reflector
Bandwidth is one factor, but there are others: the communication between the Mac client and the Indigo Server isn't HTTP-based (it predates IWS) which would require significant change to work over HTTP (and, thus, the reflector, which is HTTP based), but, to be honest there just isn't that much demand. Setting up the automation in Indigo most often requires testing/debugging, which is more challenging when remote. The vast majority of users just don't need to configure their systems remotely.
Manually controlling things, however, is a big request - so that's why we have the reflector and Indigo Touch (both iOS and Web) for control.
