Leviton DZ6HD dimmer, status and associations

I am looking more seriously at z-wave replacements for Insteon devices...

I'm running Indigo 2021.2.0. I've been testing a pair of Leviton DZ6HD dimmers. I have a couple of questions/issues that I could not find addressed in the form already.

1. After inclusion and sync, controlling the device from Indigo works fine, however Indigo was not seeing/reporting any change of dimmer brightness (at the device). I enabled "Status polling" and set it to "As Often As Possible" which seems to work, albeit not instantaneously. Is this the best approach? (Am I missing something?)

2. I am unable to get Z-Wave associations to work for the devices, when configured through Indigo. I was able to make "match brightness" triggers to work between the devices, but again not terribly responsive (understandably). Again, am I missing something?

3. Does anyone have a recommendation for Z-wave dimmers that work w.r.t. 1 and 2 above? (I was trying Leviton as a reaction to Insteon evaporation....)

I've included Indigo's device details for each of the two dimmers below.

Thank you.

Re: Leviton DZ6HD dimmer, status and associations

Different modules have different reporting capabilities and some of them aren't good about reporting state or brightness changes. Sounds like this one falls into that camp.

I'm not sure why the associations aren't working. Was there an error when you created the association?

For switches that have more functionality (including much better state/brightness reporting), take a look at this forum thread.

Re: Leviton DZ6HD dimmer, status and associations

Hi Matt. Thank you for the quick response.

I did not see any errors when I created the associations. Here are the relevant log entries from that time (devices 130 and 131):

2022-05-08 16:32:37.769 Z-Wave added association of "130 - Dimmer Switch (DZ6HD) B" to "131 - Dimmer Switch (DZ6HD) A" group 1
2022-05-08 16:32:37.808 Z-Wave retrieved group 1 associations: [1, 130]

2022-05-08 16:33:39.439 Z-Wave added association of "131 - Dimmer Switch (DZ6HD) A" to "130 - Dimmer Switch (DZ6HD) B" group 1
2022-05-08 16:33:39.478 Z-Wave retrieved group 1 associations: [1, 131]

I've also attached screenshots showing the associations now. I think I have it right?

I checked before purchasing, and I believe these are supposed to support associations, although I do understand that their apparent support does not mean it will work! I've attached a screenshot of what the manual says.

Many thanks for the link to the other thread. I did not see that. I have some other Zooz products and really like them (so far) so I will try a couple of their dimmers — will report back!

Thanks again.

Re: Leviton DZ6HD dimmer, status and associations

Does it support more than 1 Group? In this case Group 1 is the lifeline association normally used to update the central controller (Indigo). Group 2 or 3 might allow for direct association with other modules. The manual should explain which group does what.

Re: Leviton DZ6HD dimmer, status and associations

Alas it appears it only supports one group (Group 1, lifeline). I say that based on the documentation I have, and what Indigo is telling me!

I'll post when I get a chance to test the Zooz units.

thanks
