Running Unifi Controller on Linux?

Since there doesn't seem to be an easily installed controller software version for Catalina (wow do I hate Java) and because I'm also spinning up a linux Plex server, I thought I'd try running the controller software on the linux box.

Does the UNIFI plugin care what kind of OS the controller software runs on?

Re: Running Unifi Controller on Linux?

I have two instances of Unifi Controller running on Catalina with no problems at all, BTW.

As for putting it in Catalina, whew!

What docs I've found for it seem crazily complicated.

Putting the unifi cobtroller on Catalina? Nope.. just install the java runtime engine then install the latest controller software... unless I’m missing something?

Computer says no.

This is the part that scared me off, but perhaps I searched for the wrong terms. Got a link to the Catalina JRE installer? Every link I followed involved a dozen steps.

Edit: Never mind. Guess I just had bad luck at first finding the right installer. Got the hated JRE running on a test machine now, and I'll install it on the Mac that needs it tonight.

Ah I suppose Oracles instructions for it are over complicated (aren’t they always).. all you need to do is download it, right click and open to bypass gatekeeper then install as normal!

Computer says no.
