Re: TRV Controller Discussion Thread

That was my first thought also.
So I reset one Thermostat and included it as a new device to no avail.

I think, if you included them in 7.3 they will not be changed during the update...

Re: TRV Controller Discussion Thread

So is it just a new Spirit that you are adding to 7.4?

Do any existing (pre Indigo 7.4) Spirits show OK in Indigo 7.4?

If a new Spirit, maybe the model Id has changed in which case Indigo probably won't know about it but should be relatively easy to fix. You can dump the device details to the log and share here so it can be checked out (if that is the issue). :)

Re: TRV Controller Discussion Thread

Its not my setup, it‘s a new device from on e of my neighbours.
He asked me yesterday about the setup of the thermostats and thatˋs when I found out.

If is really the device, it‘s very confusing that Euronic sells the same thermostats with the same firmware revision with different manufacturer info - but maybe that is the problem...

Re: TRV Controller Discussion Thread

Well it is definitely different which is why, I guess, Indigo doesn't recognise it.

The Manufacturer Aeon Labs seems odd?

I think this issue needs Matt's input. :)

0x0371 is definitely Aeotec's manufacturer ID not EUTROtronic's. What specifically does the branding show on the thermostat itself (and the manual) for both the manufacturer and the model?

Re: TRV Controller Discussion Thread

Any news on generic "thermostat v2" and "schedules programming/heating source enabling only"? :)

Re: TRV Controller Discussion Thread

Hi Matt,

this is the label on the thermostat.

Model: Spirit Z-Wave Plus
EUROtronic Technology GmbH
Südweg1, 36396 Steinau

And the Z-Wave Plus logo

The user manual states: Version 2018/11

Re: TRV Controller Discussion Thread

Strange they are using the manufacture ID, but we'll update Indigo (in 7.4.1) to use the Spirit device definition for that manufacture + model ID combination.

Re: TRV Controller Discussion Thread

Thanks Matt.
I suppose they bought the firmware and forgot to change the IDs

Re: TRV Controller Discussion Thread

Autolog - just a heads up of a weird issue that has come up twice in 24 hrs.

Seen three more Odd incidents yesterday and the day before.

I do not not believe the TRV Plugin is at fault here for Case 1 or 2 - but Case 3 was weird and maybe as it was driving the issue.

Case 1:

On Friday came home to find the Heating had been on for 36 hours continuously.

Mainly due to a spare Bedroom named after my Granddaughter who visits the most. Molly.

Mollys TRV setting is set point 17C for three schedules throughout the day. Overridden by 'Guest Mode' when she is here which moves the set point to maintain higher temps for each schedule.

Despite the TRV and Radiator reporting Heat=On and Valve 100% and the TRV and SRT321 /HRT4 reporting a set point of 17C and actual temp of 14C, which triggered the Variable to invoke the Central Heating to turn on.

Also the heating was on continuously for 36 hours.

Restarting the TRV Plugin had no impact.

Removing the Batteries and reseating them in the TRV caused the valve to actually open and heat to start being delivered to the radiator.

Case 2:-

Left the house for three hours yesterday.

On return found the Lounge at 18C three degrees below target set point of 21C for the time we were away.

Again the TRV and Radiator reported Heat=On and Valve 100% but no heat going through the Radiator despite the Heating being on.

Again restarting the TRV Plugin had no impact, the radiator remained cold despite reporting Heat On and Valve at 100%.

Again removing and returning the Batteries into the TRV restored heat to the Radiator.

Case 3:-

Guest bedroom was reporting 21C with a set point of 17C with the Valve reporting 51%.

Only resolved after removing and replacing batteries.

Summary:-

In cases 1 and 2 TRV and Radiator was reporting everything was doing what it should be = just the Spirits were not actually doing what they appear to be reporting.

In Cases 1 and 2 TRV Devices were demanding heat - the heating/boiler was actually on as the uncontrolled radiators - Mainly Hallway and Master Ensuite were hot and had managed to get the rooms to 25C. I have graphs that captured all this.

It is possible that using rechargeable batteries may be the cause of this.

All Radiator TRVs were reporting Battery level at 30-35% - where Eneloop rechargeable batteries had been installed from March to June 2019.

I have replaced the batteries on ALL TRVs testing the new Ikea Ladda hybrid batteries along with a range of Eneloop Black and White pairs.

I have reset the alarm level on TRV batteries from 21% to 39% to replace them earlier.

I'll keep an eye on this - may setup some triggers to detect aberrant behaviour earlier in future.

Re: TRV Controller Discussion Thread

Thanks for the report. :)

If it happens again, can you check the status of the Spirit TRV device and see whether it's mode is OFF or HEAT.

Re: TRV Controller Discussion Thread

Raised this as an oddity - in case anyone else has encountered or if they do will be able to recognise so we can devise mitigation paths.

Both TRV (Spirit) and Radiator were reporting Heat=On

All looked good except the radiator and TRV (Spirit) devices were reporting 100% open with heating confirmed on and pumping but not hot water going through the radiator.

Its as if both times the actual TRV Spirit Radiator was reporting Heat On and valve 100% which the TRV Controller would see as it having done its job.

My suspicion is the actual Spirit device on the Radiator - and that may be caused by using rechargeable batteries.

I'll keep a closer eye on them, because while not advised, if the rechargeables could do the job, it would reduce financial and environmental costs.

Re: TRV Controller Discussion Thread

Hi,

I just wanted to report, that I have similar problems with some of my Spirits.

I have disabled the TRV controller, because for me it just is not the right strategy, so I can rule out any influences of that plugin.

So the incident was:
Two of my Spirits definately showed a different valve value than was actually set.
For example the setpoint was 22 and the actual temperature was 26. But the valve was still open. Removing the batteries and reinstalling them solved that discrepancy and closed the valve.
Battery level was 90% at that time. I don't remeber the valve value reported in Indigo. Next time something like this happens, I will record the actual numbers and report back.

Cheers
Wilhelm

Re: TRV Controller Discussion Thread

After seeing many of these similar issues myself when I started with these I haven't experienced any problems for months. All seem to be running as they should.
I have them set to turn off when not in use rather than just lower the SP which seems to have helped and hehe optimised zwave network to ensure commands get through

I also use rechargeable batteries without any issue, other than them running out faster than normal but just have to change them when I get my notification that they are at 20%.
