Re: Alexa no longer discovering Indigo installed/managed dev

So having read through this, there is still no solution as of yet correct?

Right. No solution yet... just a temporary work-around for users with Echo Dot Gen1s or Amazon Taps. :?

Re: Alexa no longer discovering Indigo installed/managed dev

Same problem for me since 2 days probably after automatic firmware update of my echo dot 2sd gen.
No way to downgrade the firmware ?
Thanks
Patrice

Re: Alexa no longer discovering Indigo installed/managed dev

I can confirm that getting a used echo 1st gen from eBay worked for me (<$40).

I followed these steps:

1) Deleted all Indigo devices from Alexa through the web interface
2) Set up new 1st gen echo through Alexa app
3) Asked Alexa to "Discover devices" in 1st gen echo. I did NOT turn off or disconnected from the network my 8 other echos.
4) All 69 devices were discovered in the first try.
5) Tested voice commands from newer echos and they work fine.

Thanks for posting this work around in the thread. Now crossing my fingers so that Amazon does not have a way to update the firmware in these old echos!

That’s good to hear, I have a brand new in box gen1 coming from eBay tomorrow, hopeful that this gets me back up!

So if you remove the Gen 1 device from the network after successful discovery, does the system continue to operate ok? I have two systems and only one Gen 1, so was wondering if I can swap it around and get both working again!

Unfortunately no. It seems you’ll need a Gen 1 device or Amazon Tap connected in order for both discovery AND control of your smart home devices.

Other Echo devices SHOULD still work (recommend that you turn them off during discovery), but the control commands to the Alexa-Hue plugin will only come from the Gen 1 devices or Amazon Taps at the moment. :(

As crazy as it sounds, I'm actually relieved to see other people with this problem, I've spent a few days trying to make this again with ZERO luck. Glad to see its not me thats gone crazy. Should have thought to check the forum first...

I can also confirm what katiaf posted earlier. Installed my $21 Echo Gen 1 and was back in business in less than a minute. :D

But I am definitely looking forward to a more integrated official solution to this.

Also, I had forgotten that I had once upon a time installed the HomeBridge Kit plugin, so Siri was able to step in for Alexa while I waited for my Gen 1 Echo.

Re: Alexa no longer discovering Indigo installed/managed dev

As per others I am now back up and running with a Gen 1 Echo as part of my setup.

As per what “katiaf” said, I didn’t need to turn off any of my other Alexa devices, just added the Gen 1 Echo to my home network and discovery in indigo worked on first attempt.

Fingers crossed it lasts a while now.

Hope others have luck in finding a gen 1 device.

Yep! Gen 1 device resolves the problem.
Just connect gen 1 device, Goto alexa.amazon.com then smart home then devices, forget all devices then discover.
If you are unable to find a cheap gen 1 device, Amazon has them for $70 for next day Prime delivery. They are classed as refurbished but appear to be brand new.

The gen 1 echo plus does not work, I tried it, they are still getting updated. I’m assuming since it is a hub.

The one I purchased from Amazon is not the Plus.
The link is https://www.amazon.com/gp/offer-listing ... guration=0.
It is working perfectly.
I am not sure what you mean by "they are still getting updated".
Does that mean that Amazon is progressively updating the firmware on all devices and the gen 1 will fail when that occurs.
Do we know if that is why the the gen 2 failed?
Is there evidence of that occurring?
The software version of my gen 1 is 597462620.
As one of my gen 3 devices also has this software version, I am assuming that it's firmware has been updated on instal.
But some other gen 3 devices have 645583520, 2785574276 so this does not suggest that there is a consistent auto upgrade occurring.
I don't see an option to prevent software updates.
If this is going to create problems, do you know of one?

But, to re-iterate, my system is working perfectly with the gen 1 device now installed so this additional info is mainly to provide info to anyone either looking for a resolution or working on the cause of the problem.
