TRV Controller - Pre-Release Version v1.3.1

Thought I would break with convention and start anew thread for this release (1.3.1).

It is now available on GitHub here: TRV Controller V1.3.1

Changes since V1.2 (in no particular order) include:
  • Internal change to use XML files in order to validate Thermostats and Heat Source Controllers - previously was CSV
  • Tidied up validation and what is displayed in the Edit Device Settings dialogue and corrected inconsistencies
  • Added the capability to specify a Remote Thermostat temperature offset that will be used to modify the incoming temperature from the Remote Thermostat - supports a range from -5.0 deg C to 5.0 deg C.
  • Added a new feature to enable ON/OFF for a TRV that supports HVAC control (e.g. a Spirit). This will set the HVAC Mode to Off if the minimum Heat Setpoint is set otherwise it will set HVAC Mode to Heat. This might resolve the Spirit's tendency to sometimes remain on even though reporting it isn't.
  • Corrected bug confirmed in the post: Line '493' has error=''00''
  • Added support for a Remote Thermostat of type "hueMotionTemperatureSensor"

Re: TRV Controller - Pre-Release Version v1.3.1

Just a note that you have to edit each TRV Controller and set the ON/OFF option if you want it to be used as the default is not to do that. :)

Re: TRV Controller - Pre-Release Version v1.3.1

Done. Will see if this helps.

The issue of missing schedule changes, but TRV continuing to report correct status has not reoccured since I moved my setup to a 2017 iMac from an over-worked mini.

Re: TRV Controller - Pre-Release Version v1.3.1

Hi

Running 1.3.1

The Kitchen is constantly overheating - Could be sun coming through windows, cooking/dishwasher/washing machine/dryer..

But oddly the TRV Valve remains open at 100% with occasional dips to 0%

Any clues - does it need a 'whack'

Any ideas?

Re: TRV Controller - Pre-Release Version v1.3.1

I think I have sussed it

The Spirit TRV was in INS mode!!

I pressed the action button and off it went and shut down the valve.

Seems to be working now.

Odd that it was reporting temp/valve etc but sat in INS mode.

I'll keep an eye on that and walk around the valves a every few days see if they are Ok

Anyway to remote detect it in INS mode?

Re: TRV Controller - Pre-Release Version v1.3.1

Hi,

all my thermostat valves are spirit z-wave plus. They are perfectly capable to report any change automatically so I don't see any need to poll them regularly.
So I disabled the status polling in the devices.
Nevertheless every hour a status request is send for every device.

I don't know if it's Indigo or the TRV plugin.

Code: Select all

Yes, the plugin communicates with them, and does fill the log. Believe it communicates at different rates depending whether the set point is higher or lower than the current temp.

I also believe I have asked Jon and nothing we can do to hide these.

Re: TRV Controller - Pre-Release Version v1.3.1

You can set the polling in two places depending which device you are talking about (which is unclear from your question). :)

In the Spirit device you can disable polling by unchecking Status Polling.

In the TRV Controller device (that is controlling the Spirit), you can turn off polling by setting the three Polling fields to 0 (zero).

In my experience, I haven't found the Spirits too reliable in reporting their temperature when it changes - YMMV. :)

Re: TRV Controller - Pre-Release Version v1.3.1

Thanks,

@silarc
I don't want to hide them. I want them not to happen. ;-) At least not now, until I can see how the valves behave on their own.
As far as I can see at the moment, the valves rewport changes by themselves. I have set temperatur sensitivity to 2 and valve reporting threshold to 2.
We'll see....

@autolog
I have the Spirit z-wave plus. I wasn't aware that the TRV Controller still polles, even when you disable it in the z-wave device. I've set all polling fields to 0 now.
I'll keep you posted.

Cheers
Wilhelm

Re: TRV Controller - Pre-Release Version v1.3.1

Ok, I had to find out, that I had to reload the plugin after I changed those settings.

No all polling is stopped.

I inspected the log for the day and I get proper reports from the thermostats whenever anything changes. I even get regularly battery reports.

The firmware on my Spirits is 16 btw. Maybe they are different than yours.

Re: TRV Controller - Pre-Release Version v1.3.1

Just another question:

Are you comparing the setpoint and the temperatur or the valve position to decide if the heat needs to be switched on?

I have a mixture of 15 and 16. :)
