also have a Pi Zero W sitting here with nothing to do (it was only US$5 from Adafruit).

That is what is specified in the doorbell builds.... #JustSayin'

For me it would be great if Indigo would be able use use the sensors of the Arlo camera as a device. That would help (me) a lot!

I use my Arlo cameras as motion detectors, and trigger Indigo actions based on them. If you create action groups (or virtual devices) AND you are using homebridge, you can use homekit to change the virtual device state (or trigger an action group) when motion begins or ends at any particular camera.
