Door sensor a bit ugly for bathroom door!

Hi all
AliExpress order arrived today with two of the neo door sensors.
Plan was to use them for the bathroom doors to detect occupancy and therefore not have the lights shut off when there’s no motion (kids on iPhones don’t move much!!)

Challenge is I’ve realised my door frames stick out a bit and it doesn’t look quite as slick as I’d hoped.

Any other ideas how I could handle this? I have some beacons which I could trigger on phones but was hoping to use these door sensors just can’t quite figure how to make it look good.

Few pics below.Image

Cheers all
Noel

Interesting cheers, quite a sizeable beast! Needs a long hole drilling but might be able to handle that.

Is there any reason why I couldn’t just use a flat magnet instead of the specific magnet that’s still over 1cm deep? That would at least mean only one hole to drill!

No reason they shouldn't work, really.

I have drilled mine in so that the sensor itself is in the frame, and the magnet in the door. My door frames are only 1 or 2 inches thick (I put them at the top of the door), after that it's empty space.

They work well, and do what they say on the tin. Battery life isn't amazing, it lasts about 3 months in my living room door, which is heavily used.

Great shout thanks! £44 on vesternet, £23.69 with free delivery on amazon, at that price I'll jump in! Much easier than having a conversation about how ugly my 'invisible' gadgets are!!!

I use these on all my internal doors - they seem really effective. :)

You will need a 19mm Flat Wood Bit to drill the hole into the side of the door, like this: https://www.amazon.co.uk/Bosch-26092552 ... B004WO6FUO

It is worth making sure you have the correct size bit (speaking from experience).

Just supposing you started drilling a big hole in the top of the door frame then 60mm in to a 65mm required hole you find there’s a screw in the way that wasn’t visible from the outside!!!

What do I do?! Image

Bonus points for a solution that doesn’t involve me filling this hole and doing another one! I’ve got three hours till the wife comes home so it’s much better all round if she never knows a thing!!!

Re: Door sensor a bit ugly for bathroom door!

Now solved.
Lesson learned - don’t think ooh new HA gadget I’ll just fit it quickly then I’ll get on with my work.

First hole I drilled I hit the screw

Then I scraped out the origin of the screw and removed the screw

Then I realised that the first hole I’d done was all wrong anyway as there wasn’t enough clearance above the door!

So screw is now back in.

Screw covering that I scratched out to reach screw is filled

First big hole is filled

New big hole drilled and motion sensor fitted and working.

You lot are the only ones that will ever know this little set of events so shhhh!!!

Haha. This is what I'm trying to set up on my system. Struggling with it even connecting, not got round to trying to drill it in. Thankfully wife away all week so not seen the hours wasted!!
