Airfoil - Airplay Speaker Not Working With Indigo 7

Decided to switch from Sonos to Echo based audio but am having trouble with announcements,
trying to get Airfoil to play to my AE Airplay speakers.

I've tested the Airport Express in question playing iTunes to it from the Mac Mini running Indigo
which works fine.
I have the Airfoil plugin running and it does show the active speaker.
I also have Airfoil set with Indigo 7 as the source but no sound at all.

I've attached a screen shot of the setup. Very much appreciate any ideas on what could be wrong.

Edit: Forgot to mention I'm using a python script to speak a variable.

Thank,

Carl

Have you tried setting Source to System Audio?

That’s what I use because I want various things to play through speakers, not just Indigo.

It’s another thing to test even if you go back to Indigo.

Yes, setting to system audio works fine.
Problem is I use the system audio out for all my Kodi media.

Edit: Using the speak text field in the action menu it also works fine.
Can I use a variable substitution in that field to speak the variable?

Thanks,

Carl

Re: Airfoil - Airplay Speaker Not Working With Indigo 7

Maybe something to do with my Python script having the Indigo Server speak and Airfoil is listening to
the Indigo client?

Code: Select all
speakValue = indigo.variables[1929982815].value
indigo.server.speak("The temperature is" + speakValue +"degrees")

Thanks,

Carl

You might be right. I do what you’re doing - speak temperature by Python.

There’s a plugin for creating complex strings such as temperature etc, but I don’t think it includes speaking - it leaves that to Indigo.

So I guess the question is why does the Speak text field work but neither type of script
in the same Action? Tried a simple AS say "hello" and a simple python.

Thanks,

Carl

We probably need Jay to chime in here.

Re: Airfoil - Airplay Speaker Not Working With Indigo 7

Got it. As I suspected, my script was calling on the server to speak when Airfoil was listening to the client.
I dug around and found a thread that suggested having Indigo speak a bunch of text and while it's speaking,
go to Airfoil option click the source button to reveal a list of possible sources.
I just selected the Indigoserver from the list and all started working.

Thanks,

Carl
