Presence detection using Ubiquiti router and MAC address

There have been several discussions of presence detection using PiBeacon and various plugins for Indigo, but I am curious if anyone has found a solution to detect iphone presence on a home network using a Ubiquiti router and a plugin in Indigo to detect whether the phone's MAC address (or IP if static) is detected on the network. I am curious in exploring this bare metal solution without additional hardware but wanted to check with others first before possibly reinventing the wheel. Thanks!

Take a look at Karl's uniFi-WiFi-AP Plugin.

I use it to detect the presence of our iPhones. :)

It only works with unifi not edge. I only have the Uga. For the edge I would've need some info about ssh login and prompts then we could add that model.

Is it just me but I have always thought that WiFi / iPhone (Android) presence detection wasn't truly passive. You have to 'wake' your phones wifi up before any detection takes place (eg pressing home button).

My system is based on Bluetooth, and can pick me up as I get out of the car - it can even distinguish between myself and the wife, all without me having to get my phone out of my pocket. Additional logic is required if you get temporary loss of signal, but overall it works just fine.

Look at pibeacon. That can use BLE ( device type BLEconnect) to track phones.
It pings then continuously
It works most if the time.
One of the Limits: If the battery goes low
