Milwaukee Tick - is it an iBeacon?

Post by tadg »

Hey, anybody know anything about the Milwaukee Tick? $10 for an iBeacon at Home Depot seems like a nice deal. I'll probably get one next time I go to Home Depot just to play with, but the point would be more integration than just their app.

I bought one today. It is an iBeacon. I only have one, so I don't know if the UUIDs differ between them. The major and minor numbers are both 0. I don't know if they can be changed.

It also advertises a few bytes of data with Milwaukee's manufacturer code 0x0165, and the service UUID a3e68a83-4c4d-4778-bd0a-829fb434a7a1.

They likely all have the same uuid.

Unfortunately, my Home Depot here in CS says they're $30 each, not $10, which makes office depot's Magic Finder
http://www.officedepot.com/a/products/5 ... vice-3-34/
for $13 each a much better deal unless you need the weatherproofing.

Just noticed that Amazon has the Tick for $15.99USD with Prime shipping. Much better than the $30 Home Depot is charging locally.
