Airfoil 5.5 - Update failed

Hi all,

I've installed Airfoil 5.5 and getting the error "Update failed. Check to see if Airfoil is functioning correctly and that there is only a single copy of the application on your hard drive.".
I've checked and I don't have multiple instances running, reloaded the plugin, re-installed Airfoil but the error is still there... :(

Any ideas or someone experiencing the same problem?

Thanks!

Re: Airfoil 5.5 - Update failed

Airfoil updates often leave old copies in places that the Spotlight search doesn't find them. In a terminal window, do this:

Code: Select all
sudo find / -name "Airfoil.app" -print

It should find the one in /Applications but it should also find any other copies anywhere on your disks.

Re: Airfoil 5.5 - Update failed

Hi Jay,

Thanks - I did look for other instances but didn't found anything. So what I did:
Searched for instances - found one (AirFoil 5.1.1) and removed that one completely
Searched for instances - none found
Installed 5.5 - Searched for instances - found one (AirFoil 5.5)

But the error is still there... When I downgrade again to 5.1.1, the error is gone.

Any other thoughts?

Do you have a chromecast device showing up in your speaker list? Does it have a space in the name?

Re: Airfoil 5.5 - Update failed

I've confirmed that there's been some changes in Airfoil 5.5 that's going to require code changes to the plugin. Unfortunately, we're right in the middle of the final push to get Indigo 7 out so we won't be able to get back to it until after Thanksgiving. I'd recommend avoiding this upgrade until we can figure out a fix and get a new release of Indigo 6 out.

A temporary workaround may be to rename any Chromecast devices you have so that they don't have spaces in their names. I don't know if it'll work or if that's the only critical issue, but that seems to be the most obvious issue.

Thanks for the feedback, Jay. I'll wait till the Airfoil plugin has been updated - just wanted to test Chromecast audio as it's a cheaper alternative than Airplay speakers.
All the best for the I7 launch, looking forward to it ;)

Re: Airfoil 5.5 - Update failed

I had the same issue. Removing the space from my chrome cast (sony receiver)'s name worked for me. It has not kicked back that error again since I made the change.

Thanks!

Removing the space in the name did also work for me...
