What HomeKit app do you use?

As far as I can tell, HomeKit is designed to use any app that an HK-compatible HW vendor might supply. And since homebridge doesn't use any specific hardware, any HK app could be used.

I don't have any HK-compatible hardware - I'm only using Indigo (and homebridge).

I downloaded a couple of free apps from HW vendors - The Insteon+ app and the Eve app from Elgato. They both seem to do an OK job populating the homebridge device list.

What apps are best for this purpose? Which make it easiest to assign (Indigo) devices to rooms/zones/scenes, etc?

Thanks!

Re: What HomeKit app do you use?

Hey Joe,

I use Apple's sample app HMCatalogue, it works quite well. The downside, you need to be an Apple registered developer to use the app, or connected to one through a developer account. It works quite well. I'v read the reviews of the public apps available on the App Store, but didn't see that they did anything more the HMCatalogue, and some of them are a bit expensive. I'v heard a few get mentioned on these forums.

I use Home - Smart Home automation: https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/home-smart-home-automation/id995994352?mt=8

It's pricey, but the app developer has been very responsive to my e-mails and has incorporated some of my suggestions into his app.

I find „myHome - Heim Automatisierung“ von Joerg Wissemann
https://appsto.re/de/pmoC_.i a better app. It's pricey as well but for me it has a better structure.

One of the homebridge developers, KhaosT, released his own HomeKit app, Hesperus: https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/hesperus/id969348892?mt=8

Here is a review: http://9to5mac.com/2016/04/22/hesperus-homekit-iphone-app/

I haven't played with it much yet, but it's free (with optional donations.)

Re: What HomeKit app do you use?

Thanks Mike, looks nice and seems to work quite well.

Are you planning to make any enhancements on your homebridge plugin?
What is need here most is the possibility to define Door/Windows Sensors and temperature and motion sensors.
I realize that the Indigo Restful api does not seem to provide the proper homekit device types, so they could only be defined in the config file.
However I lack any javascript skills so I cannot help with that.
Nice work btw, thanks

Cheers

Re: What HomeKit app do you use?

Yes but update the homebridge-Indigo first, webdeck posted some instructions on how to do it earlier
