Prowl Plugin Discontinued

Plugin is available at https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/756 ... -0.0.1.zip

If you're currently using the Growl->Prowl method of sending push notifications, and would like to eliminate dependence on Growl, this plugin is for you. It does pretty much the same as PushOver, but uses the Prowl app instead of the PushOver app. I don't know which is better, but I already have Prowl, so here you go...

I'm going to be installing this later and seeing how it goes. I'm hoping I can integrate your plugin with NEST Home and iFindStuff to push important notifications to a phone. Should be interesting - I'll let you know how it goes.

Re: Prowl plugin available for beta test

Hi Joe,
I have downloaded and installed your plugin and then converted all my Growl alerts to use your plugin - all is working well. :)

Just wanted to say thanks for developing it. :D

Re: Prowl plugin available for beta test

Prowl doesn't have as many features as PushOver, but it seems to do the job. Just let me know if you have any problems or you think of any additional functionality you could use.

Re: Prowl plugin available for beta test

Hey Joe, I just remembered that we haven't added the Action Path options to the main Plugin documentation yet. So, if you want your "Send Push Notification" action to be in the Notification Actions section (as "Prowl Notify" or something) then just add uiPath="NotificationActions" to your action definition:

Code: Select all
<Action id="yourPushActionIdHere" uiPath="NotificationActions">

I'll figure out where to add this to the permanent docs. I think it's nice to collect all notification actions in the same menu.

[EDIT]On further thought, since you have created a Prowl device, you should probably put it under "DeviceActions" instead...

Thanks Jay. I need to read that section again to be sure I understand what it's defining.

Re: Prowl plugin available for beta test

Feature request :) :
It would be useful to be able to include the current time in the Title and/or Description maybe by being able to add in a sequence similar to including variables and device states;
With the option to define HH:MM or HH:MM:SS or similar.

The reason is that sometimes prowl alerts can be delayed and sometimes be out of order, particularly when moving from wi-fi to cellular reception. This has on more than one occasion given me cause to worry when a message arrives saying the 'front door has been opened' when I closed it 20 minutes ago :shock:
Having the time the alert was issued in the message gets round this problem.

Re: Prowl plugin available for beta test

I'll look into that. Not sure how hard the substitution would be. Of course, it's almost trivially easy to create variables with those values in a schedule elsewhere and use the existing variable substitution to put them in the message text.

Working for me too. Set debug mode for the plugin, try to send a notification, then post an excerpt from the log file.
