Chromecast

Not directly related to Indigo or Airfoil, but I've discovered it in my Airfoil instance.

Since a few days I have a new device which appears only on the LAN side (not on Wi-Fi) - same network.
It looks like a Chromecast device, bu I don't have any Chromcasts.
A nslookup didn't find anything with this name, my router doesn't show such a device.
I've shutted down everything what it eventually could be (FireTV with a App on it, my NAS with Shairport, nothing).

Does one has an idea what it is?

UPDATE: Even stranger: my old PowerBook G4 in the kitchen (with Airfoil 3.x) doesn't show it...

No idea. You might want to drop an email to Rogue Amoeba - maybe they've run across it?

Not a definitive answer, but the Amazon Fire Stick shows as "AFTM" in some circumstances when plugged into USB. Maybe something in the discovery going a bit haywire or the stick has a bug in it with its discovery response? This is complete speculation, of course...

The strange thing is, I even unplugged the Fire from power, so after a minute or two wasn't visible anymore, but this "ghost" Chromecast was still there...

Hmm, I don't know then... the number after it was not familiar to me, just weird that it would have the same designation as the Fire Stick when connected - but definitely could be a coincidence. There are several other devices that can be targets for Chromecast streams... perhaps one of those? Some that come to mind are Smart TVs, Google Home, sound systems.

Heck, target that sucker with a music file and see where the audio comes out! :-)

Ok.

I will shut down everything what could cause the issue, I'm curious to see if I can find something.

Well, that's an idea. :D
But actually it's something in my network.

Ok, so I had to re-cable everything in the living room, so I've took out that FireTV-stick from my flat.

After a while, indeed, that "ghost" Chromecast device dissapeared from my LAN.
So, I've plugged the second FireTV-stick I have, no Chromecast device yet.
I suppose, it was the App "AirReceiver", which is installed only on the first FireTV-stick.

Why I wasn't able to see that Chromcast from the Wi-Fi side remains a mistery.
