Question on trigger from IPAD battery?

Hi - I have a wall mounted IPAD for some control pages - it is always on change and I was wondering if there is anyway to monitor its battery charge. I would like to automatically cut power to it once a week (or so) to let the battery drain down to about 10%. Then turn on the power to it to fully recharge it.

It is in a metal case so hard to see the edge and I don't want the battery to swell because it is alway on the charger - BTW, I have had that happen to two apple devices already?

Nothing built-in to Indigo. Anyone else have any ideas?

If you enable the Sync over WiFi there are a couple of Mac apps that will read the device battery status... you would need to research if any allow scripting or otherwise triggering actions based on it, though. If so, could maybe trigger Indigo to turn on/off a lamp type relay device that the charger is plugged into.

Heck, maybe there is a system level way (AppleScirpt or something) to periodically read that battery level.

Not too helpful but might give you a point to research...

Nice work on your control page layout!

Thanks I'll try to figure something out - I just took it apart to check and it looks OK so far - I had a lot of help with the control pages from the great community here Korey. It is pretty easy if you create the background in a program like Affinity Designer - then just add the buttons and icons on top.

I am considering wall mounting an iPad.

Could you please take a photo of the faceplate/iPad off so we can see how it's wired & mounted? Who makes the mounting kit?

Thanks

How about if you just take a semi-dumb approach and just create a timer that turns off the power for a few hours (at night maybe) and then restores it for the bulk of the day. It should be fairly easy to find a balance of on/off duration that works for you.

I think that’s a Pyle enclosure, I’ve seen it (or very similar) on Amazon but don’t have a link at the moment.

Yes, thanks Terry I know I can do that - I don't know if it will stay awake -- but I'll try it :-)

Yes it is a Pyle enclosure - I think it was only 20 buck when I ordered it. I did not want to make a big whole in the wall. There are only 5 tiny holes - 4 for screws and one for the small end of the power connector. It is a pain to take apart but I think you can see how it works from the link below.

I put a false plate on the wall behind it (in a spare room) and jumped to the closest outlet - see photo. If I take it down I can just put a blank plate on the back wall and fill in the 5 tiny holes behind the pate very easily :-)

Our cat would eat that jumper wire in no time flat. He recently developed a taste for the battery back up for our sump pump, and not too long ago caused my TiVo network switch to vomit because of a tasty (ahem) Cat6 cable.

I've lost three AA batteries and a Fabaro motion sensor to the cats this week - motion sensor is still responding so its whole - its just hidden somewhere!

My cats and dogs used to chew wires and such. I found that rubbing a thin film of solid stick antiperspirant (not deodorant) on the wire/plug/etc. stopped all chewing immediately.

Thanks for the tip Terry. We tried some special stuff that was supposed to discourage this and it didn't work.
