[ANSWERED]No acknowlegmt Error on one device

Hi,
Indigo 6.0.18
MBP running Yosemite.

I have a schedule that runs at Sunset that turns on 5 devices. When I "Execute All" from the GUI or the phone all 5 come on with no problems. When the sunset schedule fires, One of them shows this in the log:
Error <my device name> on; send failed (no acknowledgment)

If I then turn the light on through a direct command it will turn off just fine later in the evening as turning off these devices is part of another action group.

So what would make an action group work well when manually fired but not work when fired by a schedule?
How can I troubleshoot to find more information?

Thanks,
Jeff

That error indicates that the device isn't replying to the PowerLinc acknowledging that it received the command. This usually occurs because of some kind of signal issue. If your action group sends individual on/off commands to each device then it could be signal collisions perhaps combined with some other signal noise. Try putting a slight delay on the command to the device that's failing (maybe 2 seconds) - that will give the cleanups from the other commands a chance to complete.

You may also be able to help the problem by creating an INSTEON scene with all the lights in it, then send a single ON command to the scene.

Hi Jay,
Appreciate the response. It just worked (for the first time) for this evening's sunset schedule. During the day, to try to fix this, I deleted and re-added the one device from the action group (not the device itself) that was causing the issue.
I think I also moved this device from the first one in the action group to the last one.
Is it possible that either of these action could have an affect?

I actually thought that the schedule was somehow an issue because it worked every single time "on-demand", but failed two days in a row, via schedule, then passed once.

I see by this morning's log, however that executing the action group manually caused the failure, so I've added the 2 second delay, on the one that was causing the issue.

Also, this is one of two switches that are right next to each other, does that tend to make simultaneous commands a little less reliable?

I really appreciate your detailed responses so that I know what to do should I run into similar issues as I build out this system.

Thanks,
Jeff

The delete/re-add to an action group shouldn't make any difference. Likewise, two devices physically next to each other shouldn't cause a problem.

Hi Jay,
I hope you don't mind me turning off the "answered" section, as I do have some follow-up.

I've played with this a bit more, and you are correct, this is nothing to do with schedule vs. immediate turn on.

What I see in the log is that most of the time it fails to respond to status requests and "on" commands although it does seem to actually turn on and off each time. Do you think this is a defective device or is there some other troubleshooting I can do?

I think it's unlikely that the device is failing. Note, that just because two switches are physically next to each other, it may very well be that they are on different circuits depending on what load they're controlling. What is the load that it's controlling? I wonder if the act of turning the load on is causing noise which then causes the ack to fail.

I'm going to add the [ANSWERED] back even though you have some follow ups. That's mainly a way for other users to know that there are answers on the topic (even if followups haven't been addressed yet).
