Remote Triggering?

I’d like to provide my neighbor with some type of button/triggering device that I can run actions on.
They’re about 300 ft away. I tested an X10 Big Red remote button but it’s range isn’t quite good enough, even with relocating the W800RF32 antenna.

Thinking maybe some type of guest only control page but can’t find any current info on that.
I believe they’re also out of range for Insteon and Zwave as well.

Any ideas greatly appreciated!

Thanks,

Carl

Re: Remote Triggering?

There high power ble beacons that normally go into a USB port.
John in the Netherlands is using one of these.
I believe he claims it’s is >>100 m range.
Pibeacon recognizes his car when he comes home. You can make an on button out of it.

Power on will send signals/pings (>2/sec) in less than 0.2 secs and power off will naturally stop it
Then pibeacon will set that device to up and after x secs to down again when signal stops

Re: Remote Triggering?

No wifi. Found a small cheap transmitter that works well that simply closes a contact. Have it wired to a DS10a window sensor
but can’t seem to find a way to trigger from it.
Log shows the RFXComm input as ID239 when activated but haven’t found an RFXComm device type to trigger from.

Thanks,

Carl

Re: Remote Triggering?

Copy/paste what you are seeing in the Event Log window. I saw your other post about this and what you pasted there from your Event Log doesn't look like it is from the RFXCom plugin.

Are you using the RFXCOM plugin? And what specific interfaces are you using with Indigo: RFXrec433/RFXtrx433, CM15, W800, etc.

Here's the log when the DS10a is activated:

Received RF security command sensor normal (min delay) (ID 239)
Received RF security command sensor alert (min delay) (ID 239)

Yes, I am using the RFXComm plugin with a W800RF32.

Thanks,

Re: Remote Triggering?

Indigo supports the W800RF32 plugin natively. Do you have Indigo configured to do so in its Preferences dialog? Or do you have the RFXCom plugin configured to communicate with the W800? That is, are you sure it is the RFXCom plugin that is communicating with the W800 and not native Indigo? Looks like native Indigo to me.

If it is Indigo then read over this forum thread for the options on how to catch/trigger off of that incoming message.

Re: Remote Triggering?

Trying the Switchboard plugin with the device as an X10 Monitored Device.

Get this in the log:

Switchboard Error An unregistered X10 device has been detected. Security ID is 239
Received RF security command sensor alert (min delay) (ID 239)
Switchboard Error An unregistered X10 device has been detected. Security ID is 239

Not sure what you mean by native support of RFXCom. I have the plugin installed.
edit: I don’t see a plugin called W800RF32.

Thanks,

Carl

Re: Remote Triggering?

By native I mean built into Indigo. Check your Indigo preferences dialog and see if you have the X10 RF Interface enabled and if you do if you have the type set to W800RF32 with a valid serial port selected. If you do then you are using Indigo's built-in support for the W800RF32. You don't need the RFXCOM plugin in that case at all. It also supports the W800RF32 but is mainly for supporting the RFX receivers (which can emulate the W800).

From the Switchboard message it sounds like it is wanting you to create a new Switchboard device for it? I'm not sure how it works – have you checked the forums or other documentation on how to use it?

Re: Remote Triggering?

I do have the W800RF32 enabled in the X10 RF interface.
If I try to setup a device using that the options are all for X10 devices that require entering an address
which, of course, the DS10a doesn’t have.
Setting it up as an RFXComm device seemed to make more sense since it has a Security Sensor option with a field to enter it’s ID.

Have to look into Switchboard more. Tried a number of things with it, nothing working.

Thanks,

Carl

Re: Remote Triggering?

Yeah, unfortunately Indigo doesn't have a native device type for X10 Security RF module types. So the choices are to use Switchboard (I believe you create a Switchboard device for each X10 security module), edit the Indigo Example Plugin mentioned on the other thread, or try using the RFXCOM plugin. Note if you do the last one you'll uncheck/disable the X10 RF interface in Indigo's preferences dialog. You'll then have to configure the RFXCOM plugin to communicate with the W800. Don't try to have both Indigo and the RFXCOM plugin communicate with it at the same time.

Re: Remote Triggering?

Thought I’d try the X10 example in the Indigo SDK. I assume there’s more to using it than double-clicking it to install.
Maybe some info on that somewhere? Nothing else is working.

Thanks,

Carl
