Smartwing roller shades

I ran across a company call Smartwings that makes a reasonably priced roller shade. They have three motor options for automation:

- Zigbee
- Alexa
- Homekit

my interfaces are:

- Alexa and Sonos with Alexa
- Hue Hub
- Z-wave
- X10

Excluding X10, what would be the easiest/best motor type to order?

Re: Smartwing roller shades

I would say zigbee so that you can integrate them into Indigo. If you choose the Alexa version, you can control them with Alexa but not within Indigo

Re: Smartwing roller shades

MarcoGT, thanks.

I was leaning in the same direction but I thought the Indigo Alexa bridge might be an option.

I searched this forum for zigbee but didn't find much outside of lighting. Are there any recommendations on what kind of zigbee hub to get?
While the Hue hub is zigbee I have over the limit of devices and I'm not even certain I can pair the shades with the Hue hub.

Thanks in advance

Re: Smartwing roller shades

I have an Hubitat Hub as Zigbee bridge and you can use the Indigo Hubitat plugin to expose Zigbee devices from Hubitat to Indigo and control them from Indigo.
I have lights and motion sensors and they work fine

Re: Smartwing roller shades

You should check if the device is supported by Hubitat (there is a list of compatible devices) and if the device type is mapped into Indigo (ask on the Hubitat plug-in subforum)

Re: Smartwing roller shades

Ordered before I saw your post. I will check with the manufacturer.

Hubitat arrived and I downloaded the indigo plugin for Hubitat. I can see the plugin in my list (red dot). Do I need one of the MQTT plugins as well? I went to GitHub and looked at the installation but couldn't find any step by step for installing.

Thanks in advance.

Re: Smartwing roller shades

Even if the device is not listed, there is a good chance that it will work out of the box (in the Hubitat page you might want select then “generic roller driver” or something similar).

Yes, you need an MQTT broker and the plug-in will connect to it.

Now I am from mobile, but please check on the plug-in subforum, it should be a installation/configuration guide

Re: Smartwing roller shades

MarcoGT,

Thanks. Also, Smartwings lists Hubitat so I should be good.

I'll recheck the plugin subforum. Thanks for the quick reply.

Re: Smartwing roller shades

MarcoGT, FYI...returned the Hubitat. Too much custom code involved which concerned me about vulnerabilities and points of failure.
I think I'll wait until the Matter interface/products come out later this year or next.
Thanks again for your help.
