New garage door opener

I am moving into a new home and need a new garage door opener and was curious how indigo worked with myq/chamberlin garage door openers. Or is it better to go with a dumber door and use a garage door controller

Possibly working with Alexa would be a plus but not a big deal can use Indio to open close // check status.

Thanks again on any advice

Re: New garage door opener

I wrote the MyQ plugin. It's using a reverse-engineered connection via the cloud. So commands to the doors are pretty quick, but status updates can be slow since it's polling for changes.

Personally, I love the LiftMaster 8500 opener. Quiet, unobtrusive, low maintenance.

The lift master 8500 looks interesting. I’m guess you need to buy the gateway as well or is that only needed for their apps?

I got a Chamberlain (same thing) belt drive (super quiet) and it came with the gateway device.

Re: New garage door opener

Yah I am looking at this at Lowes plus I get an additional %10 off so it makes it only $214. And the gateway is built in. Just trying to decide if the aesthetics of the liftmaster 8500 is worth it. The auto lock and not have the bars in the middle of the garage are a nice features.

Does the Chamberlain have much vibration? I had a screw drive chamberlain and you could feel lots of vibration in the room above the garage but the belt is suppose to be smoother and quieter in comparison. Videos made it seem like it didn't cause much vibration.

Thanks for the input everyone.

That's very similar to mine (mine may be the previous generation). Works great.

We have the side jack shaft mounted 8500 elite. It is fantastic. It is super quiet and eliminates the bar and shaft in the middle of the garage.

Re: New garage door opener

So sadly I had to go with the chamberlain belt driven version as the torsion spring bar was not compatible with the Liftmaster 8500.

Thanks for all the input.
