Beam break or similar into fibaro universal?

Hi all,
Looking to detect as someone starts heading downstairs.
Motion sensors are one option but not ideal due to placement options.
I can only have something small and electronic one side of the stairs, is there anything like a beam break that just reflects?

Any other ideas? Stairs are wood so no pressure mats sadly

Like this?

I’d love for someone to make a z-wave double Beam break sensor that could be flush mounted into door frames or stair cases.. double beam to work out which way someone is traveling and keep a track of how many people have entered/left a room. I know some people have made their own and seem to work well but that’s just too much effort for me.

Does the person have to go through a doorway to get to the destination? On tricky spots I have a Fibaro motion sensor pointing straight down from the door so that the only way it's tripped is if someone walks directly under it. For that matter, the Fibaro sensors are so small and so configurable that you could use that quite easily as a "beam break" device by tweaking the Z-wave settings and setting it lower to the ground.

No door, its an open stairway on the landing with three doors close by, one of which is the bathroom which I’m already getting false motion detected (I’m assuming we emit passive infra red even out of ‘sight’ of the motion sensor).

I suspect a motion sensor tucked between the banister rails pointing directly across the top stair or two as a kind of beam break with the sensitivity turned way down is probably the right answer.

Just doesn’t look very good so may need to paint one of my motion sensors brown to go with all the wood!!!

Thanks durosity for the eBay link, that was my thinking but that looks pretty big so probably just need to find a way to disguise a motion sensor :)

I havethese stress sensors used under wooden stairs with success. Sensors are attached to two bottom and two top stairs.

Yeah those things are pretty bulky for what they are. I actually routed out a hole in my banister for the one I use and sealed it in with wood filler. Looks almost completely invisible.. though will be a right pain if it fails. That said 4 years on its been very reliable.
