Effect/danger of driving a 12v device with 24v

Hi all,
Can anyone guide me as to potential effects or danger of powering a 12vac doorbell with 24vac? It’s a mechanical chime doorbell which I think is a motor that spins briefly that then makes a traditional bell move and ring.

Suspect there’s some risk to over powering the bell motor but is there any fire risk or anything like that?

Thanks
Noel

Don't most doorbell transformers have adjustable output?

I’ve just had to fit a new 24v psu to Drive my hikvision doorbell (mentioned in another post), but my old psu was 12v so my assumption is the bell/motor is too.

Can’t figure out how to get inside the bell without damaging it so can’t see the motor itself

Maybe something like this to be safe.

https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B076R44F ... ref=plSr ... won't work with AC

assuming you need 0.5 Amps then add a resistor 24 ohm 6 watt in series (or 6 times 1 watt 150 Ohm in parallel makes 24 Ohms 6 watts (*) )
That should do the trick .. its a waste if energy but should be ok.

I didn’t know doorbell power was AC. You’ve likely saved me grief on a future project, thanks.
