Doorbell sensor

Hey All,

I have a standard wired doorbell. How can I integrate this with Indigo?

Can I get a binary sensor or such like and wire this in the middle somehow?

Re: Doorbell sensor

In that case you'll likely need a relay as well. I found that a 12v relay and a fibaro universal sensor was the best way to get it all to work. Bare in mind though it needs a 12v source, I use the power from my alarm system as it runs very nearby the doorbell.

Re: Doorbell sensor

Yeah that should be quite simple to do, as mines next to the alarm too.
How does the wiring for that all work then?

Re: Doorbell sensor

With difficulty is the answer. I'll need to open it up to remember how I got it to work, then I'll try to draw a diagram. That said is is worthwhile doing it, if someone presses the doorbell the front door camera comes on screen in any room where the TV is on.. If it's a salesman or religious person (sorry howartp ;) ) I can just ignore them :D

Re: Doorbell sensor

Re: Doorbell sensor

The TV is connected to a pioneer VSX 922 AV receiver that indigo talks to via a plugin. There's a cheap analogue cctv camera mounted at the front door that connects to the AV receiver. When indigo detects the doorbell has been pressed it pauses whatever is playing and changes the source to the front door camera. :).

Oh and I found this http://www.robbshop.nl/over-z-wave/z-wa ... ve-deurbel which has a diagram very similar to the way mine is wired! Just remember different doorbells work in different ways so I can't be sure this is correct, and if it's mains powered, PLEASE BE CAREFUL!

That is something that I've wanted to do for a while... best would be to launch on smart phone or send snapshot, but that of course is a lot more difficult. Perhaps a bit of machine learning that identifies salesmen and religious zealots and automatically plays a vicious dog barking would be your next enhancement!

I connect my doorbell via an INSTEON doorbell kit (basically just a board and I/O linc that work together where the bell gets its power in the attic). But you guys have limited or no INSTEON selection over there, right?

Yeah - we can probably get hold of Insteon devices if we looked in the right places, but we can't get an interface that works with our electrics and Indigo.

If I can get my TV hooked up right, I'm looking to switch TV inputs to a camera source of some description, upon pressing of the doorbell, so I'm interested in Durosity's diagram.

I do have that as well, the trigger for the doorbell sends a link to a control page which opens in indigo touch showing the live stream. It also displays snapshots of the last 3 times the button was pressed. Quite handy!

Re: Doorbell sensor

Have you considered this???

http://aeotec.com/z-wave-doorbell It is a zwave doorbell

or this......

I have seen people create a wireless doorbell out of an open/close sensor. The sensor has a contact closure terminal inside that can be connected to a pushbutton. The unit runs on a single AA battery and can be mounted on the wall. Here’s an example of a modified sensor:
