Fibaro Dimmer - Small!??

Hi All,

So i've just received a Fibaro dimmer, then proceeded to open up a number of switches in the house, only to discover that the Fibaro won't actually fit behind any of my switches?
Walls are all concrete block and have had the switch holes drilled out at the time the house was built.
With the existing dimmers, they have quite a chunky back on the switches themselves, meaning there's no room left for the fibaro.

Any suggestions?? I guess I'm going to have to get the drill out and drill out some bigger holes?

:(

Your only other option is to get spacers which move the switch plate away from the wall. I bought some 20mm ones called trunking mounting frames, but ended up cutting a hole to fit a deeper box because it looked better.

Thanks Colin - so next question, how do you cut a deeper / square hole in solid concrete blocks? :)

Re: Fibaro Dimmer - Small!??

Simple.. Get a 20mm drill bit and drill several times to the same depth ;)

:-P

I need a reason to rewire my house so I can put Neutral to every switch - though the insurers might get a bit suspicious...

How very neutral of you... What makes a man turn neutral?

In which country do you live?
When was built the house?

I'm in the UK & the house was built about 20 years ago.
All walls are made of concrete blocks, which makes wiring and pretty much any changes to the house very difficult!

Strange.. I thought almost all houses built here since the 60s had timber framed stud walls... Perhaps I just watch too much homes under the hammer.

Is there room to locate the Fibaro at the load? Might not be the most straight-forward, but it could work...

I came here to drink milk and kick ass....and I've just finished my milk.

I had the same problem so what I did was to use the fibaro relays where I did not need the switch and just put a plate on top. In many areas we are not using the switches any more.

For where I need switches I have used lightwaverf. They look very nice and work very well.

I read light wave was pretty unreliable?

Assume I need another usb controller or something for light wave if we go that way?

Re: Fibaro Dimmer - Small!??

Yes I read that as well but my experience is very good. In any case all the switches are close to the controller. You would need a rfxcom controler. That is about £80 but you can also get more modules and cheaper. E.g power, temp sensors, etc.
