Multiple XML Parse Errors after Application Created new log

Preamble FWIW: Earlier, I got the following error because I had switched to a new admin user for managing Indigo 2021.1.

OError: (13, 'Permission denied', u'/Library/Application Support/Perceptive Automation/Indigo 2021.1/Logs/indigoplugin.alexa/plugin.log')

I removed/reinstalled Indigo with the new user.

Then I noticed this morning that Alea commands were not working and the Events log files revealed the following:

Re: Multiple XML Parse Errors after Application Created new

Whatever you have at IP address 91.220.163.61 seems to be trying to talk to the client port but it's not communicating correctly. Whatever that is you should turn it off/disable it.

The only errors I see in the event log specifically from Alexa is around the "Hall Lights" device. I'm not sure what's going on with that one, but I'd delete it in the Alexa app, wait for a while (maybe an hour) for caching to catch up. While waiting, make sure that you have it published correctly in the plugin. When you've waited and confirmed that it's published (select the Plugins->Alexa->Show Device Publications menu then look in the Event Log to make sure it's published), rerun discovery to see if that solves the issue.

Looks like the RUskies are at it. Has anyone had any issues with this source? Any suggestions on how to turn them off?.

Definitely, I’ve some work cut out for me and my NETGEAR router, tomorrow , regarding IP 91.220.163. [Too late, tonight]. I’ll follow you suggestions to resolve the “Hall Light” issues, too.

Thanks.

Re: Multiple XML Parse Errors after Application Created new

I have blocked all Eastern Europe countries in my UniFi router. Much quieter since then.
They have an option to block individual countries

Re: Multiple XML Parse Errors after Application Created new

Is your router configured to forward some requests to port 1176 on your Mac? It looks like it is, which can be useful if you need to remotely connect to Indigo using the Mac client app but a safer solution would be to lockdown your router to not forward requests and then setup a VPN server to access your home network (including Indigo).

:x Not what I wanted to hear! But thanks for good, if not welcomed, advice.

Since I haven't had this problem all the years I have been forwarding to 1176, I think I'll pause and see if the intrusion continues before jumping into another setup briar patch.

BTW, FWIW, here's a report on the culprit's recent activity: https://www.abuseipdb.com/check/91.220.163.61

Thanks,

Tom

Re: Multiple XML Parse Errors after Application Created new

Yeah, we've seen a pretty huge uptick in attack attempts against our Web site lately. We've been playing whack-a-mole blocking IP addresses all over the place, but it doesn't feel like it really helps. I predict we are going to see a very large increase in ransomware attacks across all industries over the next several months.

Re: Multiple XML Parse Errors after Application Created new

ISSUE: Indigo Smart Home Skill working via Alexa on iPhone but not on Echo 2.

Friday afternoon, evening and Saturday morning:

Me: “Alexa, tell Indigo to set [the evening lights | the night lights]”
1. Alexa on iPhone
1. Alexa replies: “Done” and lights [ come on | go off], accordingly
2. Alexa on Echo 2
1. Alexa: “Should I announce it?”
2. Me: “No”
3. Alexa: “Should I send as email instead?”

_____
*Late morning on Friday, the Echo 2 ring turned red and remained read for 3-4 or more hours. The internet was not down as I could use the interest for other business.

About mid-afternoon the red ring returned blue/green and I was able to complete Discovery. At that time, because of a problem with “Hall lights” (see Matt’s reply to OP ), I deleted that device and ran Discovery. I was then able to turn [on | off] the hall lights and set [the Evening Lights | the Night Lights] via the Echo 2 (and Alexa on the iPhone).

After 6pm using the Echo 2 I tried “Alexa, set the evening lights” with the results noted in #2, above. I tried several more times with out any luck. I then used Alexa on the iPhone to complete setting ‘the Evening Lights.”

Saturday morning I tried, again, using the Echo 2 and Alexa on the iPhone, with similar results: Echo 2 failed, Alexa on the iPhone succeeded. I removed/reconnected power for Echo 2 and did Discovery, again, but the problem (#2, above) persists.

Finally, I disabled and enabled the Indigo Smart Home Skill.
Results: Issue persists.

———

When I have some time I have an Echo Dot 2 and Echo Show 5 which I will try and report back on results.

You might like to try unpairing the Echo 2 from your account which will factory reset it AFAIK. You could then add it back to your account as a new device and see if that helps resolve the problem. :)

Re: Multiple XML Parse Errors after Application Created new

+1 on the attempt to reset the Echo - it sounds like it's in a very bad state. I should note that this has nothing to do with Indigo however since there is no part of Indigo that executes/runs on the Echo itself.

I believe the older echo devices had a pinhole into which you could insert a paper clip to perform a hard reset. Not sure if yours has one but that's another option.

Re: Multiple XML Parse Errors after Application Created new

1. Echo 2 reset to factory settings
2. But another problem has emerged, so now I cannot use Alexa to control Indigo on either my Mac mini or iPhone.
3. ISSUE: Start Local Server shows Waiting for activation,, yet reflector is shown as Activated and rebooting and restarting shows
Error failed to create reflector connection: reflector not active

__________

What am I not getting?

Re: Multiple XML Parse Errors after Application Created new

Looks like somehow your reflector activation is messed up. Try to reset your reflector's activation.

Re: Multiple XML Parse Errors after Application Created new

WOW! Sunday Service: I was told you had to go to church for that :?

Thanks for the suggestion. It worked, in part, but now after re-linking some devices are not working [Tom, you probably have to have to re-publish)]

Then there's this other problem which popped up which I've never seen before: The name of the host computer is changed. I.e., every time I re-link the Indigo Smart Home Skill (or whatever) the name of the host computer is changed; I.e., from WILLOW-II to WILLOW-II (2), WILLOW_II (3), and now WILLOW-II (4).

Why? And how can this be fixed or avoided?

I know I can go in and change the computer name back to it's original, but will that have an effect on the license subscription and create other issues since the name is changed in the subscription? See: https://www.evernote.com/shard/s61/sh/8 ... a5ff8b9623

Thanks,
- Tom

Re: Multiple XML Parse Errors after Application Created new

Bonjour host names have nothing to do with Indigo. Reflector names never change unless you request us to change it. Alexa is activated against your license based on the license itself (to which the reflector is associated), which again has nothing to do with the Bonjour name.

Bonjour caches names and AFAICT sometimes loses track of the same name and thus appends the number. I have an Apple TV which insists on calling itself Living Room (2) even though there isn't a "Living Room" and despite the fact that I've changed it's name several times.

Re: Multiple XML Parse Errors after Application Created new

[Continuing FWIW]
For the past several days I've been having problems with Alexa handling verbal requests to control my lights, via Indigo Smart Home Skill, published devices, and Alexa Routines; varying responsiveness using Alexa app on iPhone/iPad and Amazon Echo 2.

E.g., I published a device named Table Pendant (Table Light). When I say, Alexa, turn on the "Table Light," Alexa responds: "Sorry, I didn't find a device named table."

Then this morning I checked the Alex Routines and all their Actions (sans "Say,..." actions) were gone; the Routines were empty! I was one the phone with Alexa support for more than an hour this morning; nothing was resolved; Routine backups are not available; so I'll have to re-create all none-'Say' Routine Actions, again.

The issue has been escalated to Engineering Support. I'll report back.

Anyone else experiencing issues with Alexa Routine Actions going missing?
