Fresh install of OS

I have a macmini that i use only for Indigo and it has been slower and slower, and now it just froze and wouldent start, after long tring i finaly managed to reeinstall OS fromineternet and everything was working execpt Indigo, the server wouldent start i was then on 7.3, so i did upgrade to 7.4 and everything was up and running again.

But it is still realy buggy and i very often get the colorful ball. So i wasthinking of doing a fresh install of OS on a new harddrive and reinstall indigo and import a backup

But what is the correct way to backup indigo and recreate it on a new mac

What files do i need to backup and how do i handle all plugins etc
