Power Outage - Now some Insteon devices react slowly

The electricity at my house went out for several hours a few days ago. Since then, many Insteon devices respond very slowly (like 20 or 30 seconds) or not at all - to simple on/off requests from the Indigo app main window. However some Insteon devices respond quickly. Sometimes a red error message in the event Log would read: 'Error "Study Table Lamp" on to 100; send failed (no acknowledgment)'.

I have 1) unplugged/replugged the 2413U controller, 2) re-synced all of the devices and 3) unplugged/replugged some devices that are easy to get to. Some devices did not re-sync in the 'batch" process and I had to do them individually. I have 74 Insteon devices - some are 15 years old some are 1 year old. Maybe 10 are dual-band. The 2413U is a couple of years old - it seems like I have to replace it more often. We have a couple of power outages a year but I don't ever remember things getting this bad.

I'm running Indigo 7.3 on High Sierra 10.13.6

Before the power outage I had the "Unexpected command 02 62 (flushing)" and I still have that. I was going to save that for another post - but I'm including it here in case it means something.

Any ideas what to try next?

Thanks,

Bill

I wonder if the storm did some damage to one or more of your devices causing them to flood the communications with bad packets? About the only way to identify/solve that is to physically take each device off the power line and see if things improve. Tedious.....

That's definitely sign of something amiss - usually signal noise. I'm with @jalves, the first thing I'd look at is perhaps a device that has gone bad/marginal and is now spewing garbage. Check out the signal troubleshooting page for help.

Ok. I was afraid that was going to be the answer. Here is an update.

The performance meter at the lower left corner of the Indigo7.3 app Home Window was maxed out green. I would stop and restart the server and within 30 seconds the “meter” was maxed out. Insteon on/off commands worked but were very slow. Also I rebooted computer. The I turned off all triggers, the schedules, then disabled all plugins. At each step I stopped and restarted the server. The same behavior, the perf meter would go to full green within 30 seconds.

The next steps were to turn off circuit breakers - several at a time. I eventually turned off all circuit breakers with the exception of the air conditioners and one other circuit that has just one electrical outlet on it. I plugged the computer, PLC and one Insteon switch into this one outlet. I still got the same behavior, the perf meter went full green within 30 seconds.

After, so that part of the experiment was over and I turned on all the circuit breakers. The full green perf meter went away and has not returned! I cannot explain that. Insteon commands for the most part are quick to respond. A couple of switches that were slow to respond before are sometimes still slow - but not always. I did order some replacement switches a week ago - just in case.

I still got the Unexpected command 02 06 (flushing). I decided to turn off (8) circuit breakers today to track down the offending device. Within a few minutes I got a similar error message Unexpected command 02 D6 (flushing). An hour later I got the earlier 02 06 (flushing) error. So I assume that the offending device is not on one of these 8 circuits.

Is I am still tracking down these issues. Here are the questions I have for today:

1) what is the command 02 06
2) what is the command 02 D6
3) is there any way for Indigo to help identify the device sending the command - I know you have written about this several times before, but …
4) what does the progress bar/ performance bar in the lower left of the Indigo Home Window actually measure
5) is there a way to see the Insteon traffic

If, when you turn off circuits, you aren't directly controlling Insteon devices when the bar fills up, then you've got some kind of automatic stuff going on in Indigo which is causing Indigo to send requests to the PowerLinc. Those are not being acknowledged, so a little green nib that represents the message stays in the queue, eventually filling up. This would obviously happen because it's trying to communicate with the Insteon devices on the circuits you've turned off.

When you are testing, you need to turn off ALL automated things that Indigo might sending to Insteon devices. That should eliminate the immediate green bar filling and should give you more of a chance to see if manually sending commands to a device on the circuits that are still on are going through correctly.

The meaning of those are irrelevant because it's invalid data. All it shows is that the PowerLinc received an invalid command packet.

Once you do the next round of testing as I suggest above, then you will know what device it is because it will be the one which doesn't reply to your manual commands sent from the Mac client.

Green nibs represent outgoing packets, incoming ones are Purple. So, lots of green and no (or not much) purple means that the PowerLinc is sending commands but is not receiving replies from the device.

Not as such, in a useful way. Well, there is a debugging mode, but it's only useful to us and at this point there are other things that will be more useful to do.
