Upgrade Question

I have been very slowly adding to my home automation system.
I currently have several insteon switches and several z-wave items.
I run a headless Mac-mini server i7 Dual core 2ghz. indigo 7
My issue started after I added a couple of ip cameras.
I run my indigo server, iTunes server and security spy on the mini .
My question is should I add another mini server to take the ip cameras or should I get Mac Pro 5.1 with much more computing power
Lately my iTunes will quit until the server catches up.
I only have two cameras at the present time and would like to add a few more.
I thought of adding a Vlan to isolate some network traffic but I believe my server is the weakest link.

Re: Upgrade Question

Only came across this when I was doing my periodic "show me unanswered posts" routine :)

A lot depends on how much RAM your mini has and what the resolution is of your SecuritySpy cameras - because the higher the resolution the more taxing they are on your system, especially if you have enabled motion sensing or continuous capture. The fact that iTunes "catches up" tells me that you are underpowered and could use more memory or a heftier computer. For me I run a ton of cameras for SS and I run them on a Mac Pro. I used to run it all on my 16GB mini but once I started getting high def camera doing motion captures then my mini said "nope".

Re: Upgrade Question

My Mac mini has 16GB of ram. I will look for a Mac Pro .
Is there any issues with running my indigo server and iTunes server on my mini and running security spy on another machine, Will that create a bottleneck?

Thanks
Bob
