Insteon KeypadLinc – Button 7 Off Comman not working

Hey guys,

I have had this system up and running for about a year without any issues and all of a sudden I'm having an issue with my KeyPad Linc. I have it set up that if you press (turn on) keypad button #7 it will turn on a virtual device in Indigo. If you press it again (turn off) it will turn off a virtual device in Indigo. This has been working perfectly for a year and when the button is in the "off" state a press still turns it on and the virtual device turns on as well. However, once the button is in the "on"state pressing the button won't turn it off anymore. The button just flashes twice and then returns to the " on " state and hence the virtual device isn't tuned off either.

I really don't understand what happened. The button is just supposed to turn on and off and press which turns on and off a virtual device.

Anyone know how I can fix this? Nothing has changed on my software side at all. I didn't make any changes.

The double flash generally means that it can't reach a responder (presumably the PowerLinc). Resync the KPL in Indigo and see if that repairs the missing links.

Thanks for the quick reply. Weird though that it only doesn’t work for the off press, right? Could you quickly walk me through on how I should resync the KPL? Don’t wanna do anything wrong!

Open the device config dialog and press the Define and Sync button...

so sorry for the late response. I was stuck in Europe due to COVID and was just now able to travel back and have a look at the problem in person. I used the Define & Sync button as you had suggested but, unfortunately, it didn't do the trick. Let me give you some more details of the issue.

I have two Insteon Switches in my home that turn on/off this virtual device. Switch 303.S1 (living room) and Switch 306.S2 (bedroom). Everything works as expected on switch 306.S2. Here is a screenshot of the Insteon device links:

Hi Philipp,

We need to see the Event Log results of the device sync as well as both buttons being toggles (both working and failure cases), so open the Event Log window then re-define/sync the module (via the device dialog for the KeypadLinc), then toggle both buttons a few times and copy/paste the Event Log window results into a reply for us.

I pressed the Blinds Off Button on 303.S1 after I pressed the blinds On button. But it seems it doesn't even register in the log. The Skylights button on 303.S1 works fine. And the Skylights AND blind buttons on 306.S2 work fine as well.

The sync is showing that there are links for every button on 303.S1 back to the PowerLinc, so each button press should be sending an Insteon command for the PowerLinc (and thus Indigo) to receive.

If you are consistently seeing button presses for some buttons on the 303.S1 in the Event Log but not others (blinds off in this case?), then I think the module has started to malfunction and should be replaced. You can try factory resetting the module (per its instructions) and re-syncing it in Indigo to see if that helps, but if it doesn't and the problem is specific to that button only (and thus not a general Insteon signal/noise issue) then I think it probably needs to be replaced.

I factory reset the switch and synced it again and that actually fixed the issue!!! Thanks so much. So glad this works again!
