No, Indigo just remembers the last port that was selected. What that means is that there is no longer a "usbserial" port, which means the driver didn't create it.
When "usbserial" is showing, then there is a serial port in the
/dev/ directory (where all serial ports are, and where the prolific driver is putting it when it finds a prolific device on the USB bus). What you're saying is that even in this case you're getting errors in the event log showing communication failures? What are the exact errors that it shows when it tries to connect?
