Help! 2413U Modem dying - how to replace?

As the subject says, I believe my modem is dead or dying. Indigo loses comm with it every couple of hours at best, and that's after running for years with no change, so I assume its hardware,

This might be the best case however because I can still sometimes get it to work and I have a spare 2413U. But how can I copy over all of the links and so on? I have about 60 (sixty) devices and do not want to have to relink them all!

I'm currently resyncing - when done, how can I tell what needs to be done manually? It looks like a significant number of errors in the console log...

Please advise! Thanks!
Dave

Dave,

Check your logs, do you have unidentified links showing up? If so, it may just be line noise, and not a dying 2413U.

To replace the modem, plug in the new modem, make sure that Indigo recognizes it (you'll need to update the port for the modem).
Once Indigo see's the new modem, it will offer to update all the links. Allow it to update.

Depending on the configuration, communication speed, etc, number of links, it could take 45 minutes to several hours to finish updating.
Please note, most of your home automation maybe down while Indigo updates.

It would seem to me that the ability to relink (create all of the device links on a new modem) wirthout a button press is (a) undocumented Insteon magic, and (b) very welcome when you've got 50-100 devices that would otherwise require manual linking!

Dave,

Maybe I am misunderstanding? But it is completely automatic, other than a prompt to confirm you want to relink.

1) You wouldn't want Indigo to just start relinking without an explicit confirmation since it'll "take down" your automation.
2) Maybe you were just testing the new unit, and didn't want to switch over to it (eg Testing before selling, etc).

Other than a prompt to confirm, it's completely automatic (well, except for maybe some of the battery operated wireless devices, since they maybe asleep, but over all 95%+ of my devices relinked without any issue).

Ben, not sure what you mean. I was praising Indigo for it's ability to automatically relink.

Yep, Indigo can automatically handle everything but modules that sleep (motion detectors, etc.) which you'll have to wake up during the resync process so that it can proceed. In Indigo 6 it was more of a process to swap out a PowerLinc if you had newer (i2CS) firmware modules, but Indigo 7.0 improved that.

Like I said, maybe I misunderstood what you were trying to say...

I To me, it sounded like you were praising and then complaining about the auto-relinking, which is what had me confused. Glad to hear it was just me... :D
