[SOLVED]: Failed to Link

I have been trying to link an insteon garage door controller and it seems to always fail. I even plugged it into an outlet right next to where the insteon controller is plugged into and still no luck. Should I assume it's a faulty module?

Here's the log:

Re: Failed to Link

Nevermind. I ran the troubleshooting Reset Powerlinc and sync links from the preferences section and it seemed to fix it. It now recognizes the module. Hopefully it reaches the garage.

Re: Failed to Link

I just had the same problem. I bought new SwitchLinc #2477S modules to replace several failed 1st generation modules. Upon installing the new modules, I got exactly the same error:

PowerLinc Linking - entered discovery linking mode (240 seconds)
PowerLinc Linking - received module button pressed from 2F.E8.E3
PowerLinc Linking - copying all links from old address to new address
PowerLinc Linking - sending engine version request to 2F.E8.E3
PowerLinc Linking - adding PowerLinc to module's database
PowerLinc Linking - sending engine version request to 2F.E8.E3
PowerLinc Linking - adding PowerLinc to module's database
PowerLinc Linking - sending engine version request to 2F.E8.E3
PowerLinc Linking - adding PowerLinc to module's database
PowerLinc Linking - sending engine version request to 2F.E8.E3
PowerLinc Linking - adding PowerLinc to module's database
PowerLinc Linking - sending engine version request to 2F.E8.E3

PowerLinc Linking - adding PowerLinc to module's database

PowerLinc Linking - adding PowerLinc to module's database
PowerLinc Linking - sending engine version request to 2F.E8.E3
PowerLinc Linking - adding PowerLinc to module's database
PowerLinc Linking - sending engine version request to 2F.E8.E3
PowerLinc Linking - adding PowerLinc to module's database
Error Linking - device failed to send engine version information
    Error linking failed
PowerLinc Linking - entered discovery linking mode (240 seconds)
PowerLinc Linking - syncing PowerLinc links (address 0E.DD.E9)
PowerLinc Linking - . . adding: INSTEON plc link to controller 2F.E8.E3, flags 03, group 01, data 00 00 FF
PowerLinc Linking - . . adding: (not added -- probably already exists)
PowerLinc Linking - PowerLinc links updated
    PowerLinc Linking - sync complete
PowerLinc Linking - received module button pressed from 2F.E8.E3

I went to: Preferences->Interfaces->INSTEON / X10 Power Line Interface->Configure->Interface Options and clicked "Reset PowerLinc and Sync Links".

That solved the problem.

Re: Failed to Link

WOW - that worked! I was installing the new dual-band devices and I couldn't get the to work (e.g. 2477S switch) and after executed your recommendation above, it worked! Thank you!

Re: [SOLVED]: Failed to Link

I bought a lamplinc on eBay and am having a hard time linking it to Indigo.

I've tried the reset, and I've also tried a factory reset on the lamp linc.

Any suggestions?

Thanks

Re: [SOLVED]: Failed to Link

Looks like the LampLinc isn't responding at all. Do you have it plugged into the same outlet (or power strip) as the PowerLinc? That will help rule out signal problems.

I do now; it is doing the same thing :(

Any other suggestions?

Thanks

Re: [SOLVED]: Failed to Link

Do you have any other INSTEON modules and can you define/sync those currently?

I'm wondering if the LampLinc might be a bad. I know we've had reports of some ebay purchased modules not work well (especially for the PowerLinc).

Re: [SOLVED]: Failed to Link

Replaced a 240v relay. Trying to sync. Appears to work but then can't fetch data from the module. I can't plug it into the same outlet as the powerlinc, unfortunately.

Code: Select all
PowerLinc                       Linking - copying all links from old address to new address
PowerLinc                       Linking - sending engine version request to 3F.2E.0A
PowerLinc                       Linking - received engine version 02 from 3F.2E.0A
PowerLinc                       Linking - sending id request for device information to 3F.2E.0A
PowerLinc                       Linking - received id request response from 3F.2E.0A
PowerLinc                       Linking - initializing remote device "GA Hot Water Heater" (address 3F.2E.0A, firmware version 9E)
   PowerLinc                       Linking - initialize complete
PowerLinc                       Linking - syncing remote device "GA Hot Water Heater" (address 3F.2E.0A, firmware version 9E)
PowerLinc                       Linking - syncing all links
Error                           failed to fetch data from remote module
   Error                           Linking - syncing failed
   Error                           linking failed
PowerLinc                       Linking - entered discovery linking mode (240 seconds)
PowerLinc                       Linking - syncing PowerLinc links (address 3C.4C.82)
PowerLinc                       Linking - . . adding: INSTEON plc link to controller 3F.2E.0A, flags 03, group 01, data 00 00 FF
PowerLinc                       Linking - . . adding: (not added -- probably already exists)
PowerLinc                       Linking - PowerLinc links updated
   PowerLinc                       Linking - sync complete
PowerLinc                       Linking - exited linking mode

Tried with the module on and also off. Any thoughts? I have had a couple of others and they all sync'd without difficulty. I also tried the "reset powerlinc and reset links" as described above, without success.

Re: [SOLVED]: Failed to Link

Use an extension cord to try plugging the PowerLinc into different outlet / circuits (if possible the same circuit as the module) to see if you can get the sync to complete.
